Trump says land strikes in Venezuela will 'start very soon'

Source: USA Today

Amid a buildup of U.S. military forces near Venezuela and strikes on alleged drug boats, President Donald Trump told U.S. troops on Thanksgiving that the military operation will soon include strikes on land.

“In recent weeks, you’ve been working to deter Venezuelan drug traffickers," Trump said during a call with military service members that alluded to the boat strikes, adding: "We’ll be starting to stop them by land also. The land is easier, but that’s going to start very soon."

Since early September, the Trump administration has attacked at least 21 boats traversing the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific in international waters, killing 83 people − many of them Venezuelans. Administration officials have said, without providing evidence, that those boats were attempting to carry narcotics to the United States.

The military campaign that has drawn criticism from legal experts, who question the legality of using deadly military force rather than trying to apprehend suspected trafficking vessels and their cargo. This week Senate Democrats escalated their demands that the Trump administration publicly disclose the legal justification for conducting the attacks.

It's no secret many Republicans hate his ass almost as much as we do. They simply had to go along to keep their cushy jobs. But as his base erodes along with his political clout, we're seeing more of them break from the pack. He does this and it might be stamped. Particularly if body bags start landing at Dover AFB. Trump is weaker politically than he's ever been and maybe I'm reading too much into this but it feels like the "knives" are coming out. Getting "strung up and butchered" by his own party would be an interesting turn of events.

In the whole history of the USA there might have been a few complete mental cases appointed to cabinet level jobs but this administration has nothing but the worst of the worst. All of the great ones were very careful with their cabinet picks and relied on building a consensus among them before making important decisions. When you have people with no ability except kissing ass and a person with Narcistic Personality Disorder in charge the result is catastrophic. I'm beginning to think I made a really bad choice in not leaving the country, but then I'm old and probably won't have to deal with this shit for a long time. Pity the next generation. Aldous Huxley was right. You don't need violence to control; you only need to control the media.

I have my doubts that he's going to send in any troops.

He'll likely lob some cruise missiles at random places and people, then declare victory.

Putin ally floats sending Venezuela nuclear-capable missiles to deter US
Russia has suggested it could send its most advanced hypersonic missiles to Venezuela as tensions with the United States escalate.

Alexei Zhuravlyov, deputy chairman of Russia’s parliamentary defense committee, told Russian news outlet Gazeta.Ru there were “no obstacles” to providing the Oreshnik or Kalibr missiles to the “friendly” nation.

“Russia is actually one of Venezuela’s key military-technical partners. We supply the country with nearly the entire range of weapons, from small arms to aviation. The details and volumes of deliveries are classified, so the Americans might be in for a surprise. I see no obstacles to providing our friendly nation with new systems such as the Oreshnik or the well-proven Kalibr missiles. No international commitments restrict Russia in this regard,” Zhuravlyov said.

Why It Matters
Tensions in the region have grown in recent months as the U.S. has increased its military presence near Venezuelan waters. The Trump administration has deployed fighter jets, bombers, drones, spy planes, warships and Marines to the region, citing efforts to curb drug trafficking. These operations have resulted in more than a dozen strikes and over 60 deaths since September, with many of the alleged traffickers having departed from Venezuela.

In response, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has reportedly reached out to Russia, China and Iran to request military assistance.

The department of defence was renamed the department of war, so now Trump is looking for wars to start.

And the best way to start a war is to blame another country for something they may, or may not, have done.

Too simple!

And Russia is so backwards they couldn't get their nukes off the ground! Adding this, just in case.

Lets just ignore the 500 pound gorilla in the room that Russia has developed new nukes that can be launched and basically hover until required to target an area. Or the fact they have nukes that have evasion capabilities. Not that they really need them, they have more than enough to overwhelm any anti nuke system we have. Even Hilary Clinton admitted as much.

You can't win in a nuke exchange.

Justice matters.

This is indeed a fascist coup . The entire Republican Congress are seditious traitors. I don’t want to hear that they are afraid of speaking out against the PedoPrez. Do your Job. Impeach the OrangeFelob for treason and flagrantly violating the constitution. That enables Congress to remove the entire administration.

Time has run out. Each day the stranglehold of the people is tighter .

There will be concentration camps and the end to free speech next.

We the people are doing all that we can. But the republicans refuse to act. And act they must.

on the ground in Venezuela. Hegseth or whoever is really running DoD will plan to bomb Venezuela into submission. That strategy only worked to force Iraq out of Kuwait. It didn't work in VN, Iraq, Afghanistan or even completely in WWIi not including the A-bombs dropped on Japan.
