Texas bill would require genetic testing

New Texas bill, HB1123, would require all high school athletes do genetic testing to prove their sexuality before being allowed to participate in sports.

So you're telling me the same state of people that wouldn't wear a "government mandated mask" on their face, is going to let their children under go government mandated genetic testing?!?!

(b) A student may not compete in an interscholastic athletic
competition designated for a particular biological sex if the
student's chromosomal sex does not match the biological sex
assigned at birth as described in subsection (a). This
determination shall be made based on clinical evidence, including
genetic testing results provided by a licensed medical professional
under Section 33.098.

DNA of a relative can be used to track down criminals. Or if a son rapes a girl, his DNA is already on file.

what a person's assigned identity at birth was. Therefore, a trans woman would be identified in DNA testing as a man.

Males usually have XY chromosomes and females have XX chromosomes.

But, DNA is not always so clear cut. Sometimes, a baby that appears to be a male at birth has an extra X chromosome that would show up as XXY. Sometimes a baby that appears to be a female at birth has undescended testes instead of ovaries and no penis. Development of a male in the mother's uterus was incomplete. They do not discover this until puberty and adolescence when their body does not develop a female form and they do not start having menstrual periods.

Even among people who have the XX or XY chromosomes to identify them as male or female, the levels of male or female hormones can vary.

I overheard an interview on NPR at the time of the Olympics in which people discussed options for future Olympic athletes. One person suggested eliminating the male/female categories completely and using hormone ranges to establish competition categories. Another person suggested keeping the male/female categories but using hormone levels and body development (muscle strength, height, weight, etc.) to establish competition categories.

One would think there was an army of trans people taking over athletics - which, after all, is as close to religion as most Americans get.

The fact that not everybody fits into the Republicans' "beautiful" binary male/female world just doesn't compute. Jesus made Adam and Eve - it says so in the children's bible stories my dentist had in his waiting room.

Trump's appeal is that he gives people permission to reject the complexities of real life and retreat into a permanent toddler stage.

That this is a precursor to eugenics where the government gets to decide if your child are fit to participate in society.

For some reason that didn't occur to me until I saw your breakdown to all the exceptions to the supposed "rules".

This is actually much scarier now.

Especially if it's made out to be a perversion.

I'm wondering what Texas is going to do about XXY and XYY kids. Especially if their genitalia doesn't present in line with the extra chromosome. Or heck, what to do with "normal" XX/XY kids if their genitalia doesn't present the same as their chromosomes.

I wouldn't put it past the state to sterilize them along with forbidding them to get into sports.

people's lives. Makes me kind of wonder why...do they have some sort of weird (and sick) sexual obsession? Pathetic.

As of 2022, estimates for the total percentage of U.S. adults that are transgender or nonbinary range from 0.5% to 1.6%. Additionally, a Pew Research survey from 2022 found that approximately 5% of young adults in the U.S. say their gender is different from their sex assigned at birth.

So, apparently attack everyone and anyone.

. . . a week ago about a reporter in Michigan who contacted the state high school sports association and asked about "boys playing girls' sports."

Turns out that in the entire state of Michigan, there are TWO boys playing on girls' teams.

There are over 400 girls playing on boys' teams, including 198 playing football.

I'm confused.

Not a fake problem but a very real one.
Once I was reminded of all the possibilities for variations from the "rules" it became clear that this is little different than eugenics. They want to use human genetics to determine someone's fitness to participate in society. This is a very scary development.

with health insurance companies(for a fee) to deny coverage to those who have preexisting conditions when the healthcare laws are repealed. The Texas GOP can then grift with kickbacks. It is a win-win.
