What happens if we have a pandemic during the next four years?

The coronavirus is still out there, still mutating. There are always new viruses around the bend. Last time we had a shit president but we also had Dr Fauci (who they want to prosecute) and the CDC to guide policy.

Can you imagine what this would be like with RFK Jr at the helm?

My great aunt's first job was working for a pharmacist. When the pharmacy's bicycle delivery person took ill she took over his job which soon morphed into something much more stressful. I didn't understand how stressful until I was working in a blood bank keeping track of our hemophilia patients who were dying from AIDS. I'd read their obituaries, many of them young people, and the actual cause of death was never mentioned. ( If there is a hell Ronald Reagan is burning in it...)

My great aunt lived a few years past 100 and never suffered any kind of flu. I've not been so fortunate, the sickest I've ever been was with the "Hong Kong" Flu of 1968-70. More recently the Covid-19 virus knocked me on my ass, even though I was being very careful to avoid infection.

I simply don't understand Trump voters. I've met Trump voters who witnessed friends and family dying of COVID, even parents and siblings, who still refuse vaccines and voted for Trump again.

have been vaccinated and received several boosters.

But with Kennedy at the helm, who knows? What if he tries to outlaw or discontinue the vaccines? Trump won’t do shit except say the numbers of people sick and dying are fake or just ignore them completely. If a nut like Kennedy takes charge this nation is truly fucked.

In all seriousness, yes, we are going to have to remain vigilant. Pubic spaces will be populated with science deniers breathing their sicknesses into the air. I'm probably going to spend a lot more time outdoors and avoiding strangers in general and enclosed spaces whenever possible. This is where we are now.

The thought is terrifying. Competent scientists and doctors will be afraid to state the obvious facts about transmission, or give advice because they will be afraid of angering "the new administration" and his base of barbarians.

They STILL are not done persecuting Dr. Fauci! God help that poor man.

Last time, Trump urged states to stop reporting deaths and to stop testing for COVID. This time, the CDC won't be there to report data. People might notice that there seem to be a lot of people dying from mysterious illness, but there won't be any national reporting to show what's actually happening.

Same with workplace accidents and contaminated food. We'll have "the best" safety because the data will say there's no problem. Trump will make sure of that.

We're on the edge of the dismantling of the public health safety net that made America safe and healthy. Bob Kennedy will take us down.

The world is not the same place it was 100 years ago, it's changing rapidly and we're carelessly creating more opportunities for viruses to mutate into something dangerous and spread.

Pandemics are similar to floods. As greenhouse gas pollution warms the earth's atmosphere what used to be "100 year floods" in some places are happening two or three times a decade.

Ignore the news. Get the best verifiable info you can. Talk to your doctor. Talk to people who work in hospitals. Start building an info network now.

If you're not up to date on any vaccinations, take care of it ASAP.

Prepare to be heartless in the face of non-believers. That relative who gets mad you won't come to their maskless dinner party over the holidays - Tough.

Be prepared to make some tough workplace decisions in the near future, because big corporations are going to start trying to force people back into the office more than ever.
