Looks like the courts are all we really have left.

That, and the constitutional oaths taken by all elected officials, civil servants and military personnel to our constitution. The constitution is the supreme law of the land. It is illegal under any circumstances to give or follow an unconstitutional order. If enough people understand this and follow it, and if the courts act accordingly, perhaps we will be okay.

But damn. These next four (hopefully JUST 4) years are gonna be rough...

1. Courts have already rolled over.

Not one of them pursued Trump adequately or gave him consequences of any significances.
Supreme Court backs him 100% and in fact has given him lifetime immunity from all of his crime.

Oaths are meaningless. Most of the US government refuses to honor their oaths
and prevent a psychopath Russian asset dictator from taking over the US.

I try to remain optimistic, but as you point out -the facts and the evidence make that difficult.

I will say; The courts might not have thrown him in jail. But they do well at rejecting attempts by the president that are clearly unconstitutional. Although at this point, one would wonder if a court order is much more valuable than my oath?

6. We have no data to support optimism.

Generally optimism is positive and a good marker for a mentally healthy person who is successful in life.

However it can be maladaptive and self destructive when an approaching tiger looking for lunch
is seen as an adorable kitten or rabbit.

7. I mean. Optimism is mostly supported by lack of data

Perhaps the hungry tiger simply has had so little to eat, he is malnourished and unable to approach. Perhaps he is about to die from his old age and poor health

and installing W against the will of we the people. This is what made Trump possible. It caused millions of Americans to give up on democracy and be open to having a dictator. It's no wonder that a recent poll showed that 68% of Americans say that democracy doesn't work anymore.

The convicted felon led and insurrection and what did the supreme court do, they gave him impunity. I don't think I'll bet on the courts or the DOJ.

45 months and counting
