FAFO gets very real for my wife's trump-loving niece

My wife got a call from her half sister last night. She’s scared for daughter, who just lost her job.
Now, the daughter served eight years in the Coast Guard. She divorced her husband and took custody of their two kids when she came out as lesbian and married her girlfriend. Because of her military service, she was given preferential consideration to land a job with the federal government. During the past year, she transferred to a different federal job that paid more money. They just bought a house, and last Friday, she got an email at work notifying her that she had been terminated.
My wife had a smirk on her face as her sister cried about how unfair this is to her daughter, as both of them, and everyone in their family, voted for trump both times. Her daughter can’t afford the house she just bought, and she’s also worried about the GOP eventually nullifying her marriage with her lesbian wife.
It’s all so unfair, my wife and I both agreed, but we have zero pity or sympathy for them. This is, after all, what they voted for.

We desperately need farm workers. The regular workers have all been terrorized and run off.

Healthy outdoors work, with lots of exercise and fresh air, all of the fresh produce you can eat, free housing, $20 an hour. Plus, you get the satisfaction that you are doing something that is of genuine value to the community - growing food.

Come on MAGA supporters! Those immigrants are not taking "our jobs" anymore. We got jobs for you right here! Come and get 'em! Pruning starts next week, and there is lot of equipment maintenance work to do. Truckloads of turkey litter will be showing up soon, and it will need to be spread on the fields.

Many voters will just vote for whatever seems to be getting alot of media attention, and Trump certainly is a master at that.

Also, there are those who are non-white, gay or women who are themselves right wing, xenophobic and hateful against others, and want desperately to see themselves as aligned with the dominant white group. Many of them also think Trump isn't talking about them, but the 'bad' minorities.

I was trying to refer to this last election, and even other elections before it....

I totally expect, by the time we get to 2028 that our elections will be no different than the elections in Russia.....

Trump at his rallies said: "Vote for me just this one last time, and you will never need to vote again".....
And he obviously knows that, because he is already doing things that will trample all over his Trumphumping MAGAot Voters.....
Many Trumphumpers are still so dense, that they haven't yet realized they have outgrown their usefulness and he is going to throw all of them under the bus, just like he has done with us Dem Libtards......

Anyways, Trump, The Republicans, AND the U.S. SupremeCourt may change the term limits amendment, (just like changes were done in Animal Farm) and he will be allowed to run for as many terms as he wishes.(Just like Putin did)......We can all hope that with his health, and his diet, he may not make it until then.....Actually it doesn't really matter, because the Republican Party will still be there.....

Thu Feb 20, 2025, 11:12 AM

Looking back over my life (70 years), being gay is one of the best things that happened to me. Membership in a despised minority rattled my brain, it helped me make connections between topics of racism, classism, and sexism. I'm a better person for it, because otherwise I'd be a less aware person; I was raised in a conservative state (Texas) and by nature am inclined to trust authority. All my cynicism and skepticism has its roots in being gay and knowing first-hand the disconnect between what is said about me by the majority culture and my own lived experience.

As a young adult, I was surprised to find that there were so many gay people who didn't make that same journey. Whereas being gay transformed my life and changed its trajectory, they continue along the exact same path as all the other straight people around them, only with one twist. It's why queer kids commit suicide: they can't envision themselves being different from their family and friends, much less deriving joy from that difference. Terminal conformity.

I’m out of fucks to give for people this dumb. Because of them I now have to watch news clips showing Rubio representing the U.S. sitting with the Axis powers, making me want to throw up. They didn’t care enough about our country to learn what they were voting for.

Brought to my attention that the agenda of the creators of 2025 is not the same one that the technocrats have in mind. I think they are using each other to achieve their separate goals, one wonders just what they are really up to? This seems to be the logical sort of place to ask others opinions. I’m wondering when the breakup or meltdown will occur.

He proposed a cut from 14 billion to 3 billion which would have parked every asset we have and put shore patrols on bicycles.
Then he tried to push homosexuals out of the military.
That should have been enough of a clue for anyone paying attention.

people that follow the Great Orange Pig hate the very government that has provided everything for them. Where did they think voting for this hatred time and time again would lead? I actually feel sorry for their stupidity; for their selfishness I have nothing but contempt; for their carelessness toward others I have only distain. The two children are the ones in the worst position. But I am out of charity for anyone that supported this. They can take "personal responsibility."

But is your niece (herself) also a Trump supporter? Or is it just your wife’s half-sister who is the Trump supporter?

I have NO sympathy for the mother of the woman who lost her job. She supported Trump and can continue to bawl her eyes out for all I care, and I would gladly tell her that to her face if it were possible. I think it’s funny, as a matter of fact, when Trumpers get what they asked for!

If the niece is lesbian and voted for Trump, then I’d feel the same way. Probably to an even bigger degree.

If the niece did not support Trump, then I’m sorry she lost her job.

People who voted for him deserve what they get as far as I’m concerned. It’s entertaining to watch.

I am struck by my inability to feel any sorrow for her situation.

She explicitly voted for this, so, I just can't find it in me to feel sorry that she is getting what she asked for.

She wanted the face eating leopards, now she's sad that her face is included in their diet.

voters who vote for Trump is they know of all the bad things he is going to do but they believe somehow Trump will recreate a Jim Crow type of society in which their whiteness will protect them from the harm of his actions and policies and only the minorities that they hate will suffer. This is what it really comes down to.

These people can't compromise and accept having a society where everybody is guaranteed a good quality of life regardless of race. This is why we have been held back from making significant progress towards an equitable society since the 60's.

If they do, have your answer ready. Me, I wouldn’t mention Trump at all. I would reply with helpful links to job sites like Indeed and LinkedIn. And reminders that she can always drive for Uber and DoorDash - simultaneously. Hey, did you know you can drive for multiple companies at the same time? Double dipping!
She can keep her house if she’s willing to work for it.
And if she doesn’t like those suggestions you sigh and say “Nobody wants to work anymore”.

Trump’s Supreme Court could overturn equal marriage rights just as easily as they did Roe, as it is based on the same legal precedent. It is not safe at all.

they aren't going to overturn a law of Congress that makes states recognize marriages. Now, if Obergefell is overturned, it will make marriages harder to get for some (such as me) but it won't nullify existing marriages nor will it let states not recognize marriages from other states.

Nullify all same sex marriages. If they reverse Obergefell, there is nothing to stop them from reversing any law made by congress. Do not underestimate the right. That would be a huge mistake.
