People will not be able to buy anything but basics. We're going to recycle everything. They want tax cuts? Their wealth will shrink proportionately. They will be poorer in the long run, as they transform us into a third world country. People who make less, pay less.
They think they are untouchable. They've had their wealth so long, they can't conceive of doing without. People struggling to survive don't waltz out and buy a new phone every year, buy that new car, or anything else. So, they are cutting their own throats. We are a resilient people. We will survive to see them in jail, exiled, and out of office.
And, when we get back, we will put our country back in order. We'll be tougher, smarter, and won't listen to any more bullshit. There will always be someone with more money than the average person has. They have a right to exist. But, they do not have a right to put themselves above the law. We will fight against that. DEI is coming back. Being woke is a good thing. That tarnishing of virtue is a device used by evil people to control us. But, we can't be controlled like that. WE WILL FIGHT. The fools better run away while they can.

(1,629 posts)but desperate people almost always lash out at those in closest proximity to them and usually victimize the innocent/bystanders. The real villains are never actually threatened and continue thriving in their cloistered world.

Bannon isn't mad that Musk is doing what Musk is doing. He's mad because he's not the one doing it.
Karl Rove isn't mad that a GOP president is ruling with an iron fist. He's mad because it's not his GOP president.
They are being fucked with the same un-lubed dildo they have been fucking us with for the last 30-40 years.

(12,627 posts)In their billionaires' utopia they would put eugenic principles into practice to fix the economic damage done by their policies. Forced sterilization and euthanasia to deal with the unproductive, and pro-natalism to increase the desired population. It's white supremacist economics 101.

(232 posts)In Elysium the wealthy live on a paradisical space station orbiting the earth, while the uncouth teeming hoards live in nasty, brutish squalor on the surface. Thats the blueprint for our overlords, or something like it. I dont know if the Elysium scenario is more likely than Idiocracy (or Terminator, for that matter). Our future looks dystopian, at present. I have started re-reading Victor Frankls concentration camp testament, Mans Search For Meaning (German title seems apropos: In Spite Of It All, Say Yes To Life). Highly recommended. We can keep going and live according to our values even when circumstances are dire.

(114 posts)As was clear during Shrub's regime, republicans can't plan beyond the ends of their own respective noses. And furthermore, they firmly believe that no laws apply to THEM, so they completely ignore The Law of Unintended Consequences.

(2,486 posts)I've long known the Republican working class is voting against their own self interests. But now it's the top 1%. They've been doing great. All time record profits. But they have to mess with it because they want all the money in the world in their pockets. They don't understand that an affluent population makes them money. They think if they make us poor, they'll have more, and it doesn't work that way. Who ever said that rich people are smart? They are mentally ill. Caught in an addiction cycle over power and money.
And, they aren't even getting power. Gradually they'll realized only Trump and Elon and Putin have power. Everyone else has to do what they say. Or else. Including SCOTUS, who used to be powerful, but won't be. Giving up their power for what?
They think they are winning but can you imagine what it's really like to have no compassion, no love for humanity? They can't even conceive of real happiness. I have to believe that love will prevail, the leading message in Harry Potter, in the Bible, in any study of consciousness. I just don't see the mechanism by which it will happen, how long it will take, what we'll have to go through to get there.

And recession means they get to buy more real estate then rent it out for eternity like Trump's friend blackrock does. Any suffering the 99% endures will be Europe's fault, the dems' fault, California's fault, brown people's fault.

(34,616 posts)Exactly this! But for some odd reason they don't get it. Think about the number of third world countries these rich oligarchs could move to where their wealth would be amplified times 3 or more.
But they don't want to do that. Why? Because they look around the country and they don't exactly like the infrastructure and are uncomfortable with the poverty, I guess. Also, they don't necessarily feel safe when exploring outside of the fancy hotels.
At the end of the day, despite all the waste these fakers are complaining about, the United States is the richest, most prosperous country in the world, with millions of people from around the world wanting to move here (for now). It could be even better if we could figure out how to protect the civil rights and health of all citizens.
Our focus should be on how to improve and progress, not on how to regress or turn back time, or go back to systems that did not work.
I'm just wondering how trump plans to explain the extremely high unemployment numbers that he is actually creating in real time. Letting go of people in their 50s and 60s to fend for themselves in a crowded private job market? It's mind boggling. And we still have Americans who are too dumb to see what's going on and still don't understand that this is going to affect their lives as well.
