Not Everyone Is Caving to Trump

"SNIP..........

Mark Carney.

The former Bank of Canada governor — and now new prime minister — took a bold gamble: He made resisting Trump central to his campaign. Framing the upcoming Canadian election not just as a national choice but as a bulwark against Trump’s calls to annex his country, Carney flipped the script.

And if the polls are to be believed, it’s working.

The contrast with recent events in the U.S. couldn’t be more stark. While powerful institutions here appear unwilling — or unable — to stand up to Trump, Canada’s new leader is gaining ground by doing exactly that.

It’s a reminder that, sometimes, the way to beat a bully is to stand your ground. And voters might just reward you for it.

............SNIP"

Applegrove:

Canada has a lot to lose if we get annexed. We have good healthcare, great schools, a good distribution of wealth. We are like a Nordic country and we see American news and don't want bankruptcy (due to medical debt), guns (killing children) and MAGAs (who hate their fellow citizens and want them to feel pain). We meet people half way. It is not winner takes all. So we have real tangible things to lose and we know it. We are very together as a group. 90% of us are on the same page. Canadians are anxious, angry, not sleeping well and, coming out of shock. We are resolute. As we unite our seemingly frivoulus divisions go away, Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, is losing his chance at power. He was way ahead in the polls 3 months ago. He's behind Carney now. He has a 1% chance at forming a Majority Government.

We get to inhabit another country so it is an easier call to fight Trump. Easier for us to stand up. It is frightening in our guts, but not gut twisting. Following our guts still works. It is a simple attack Trump makes on us and not a relentless attack on our civil society yet. Not like what Trump is doing to government, judges, law firms, the press and on and on in the USA and making examples of people. Not to mention all the jobs lost and security and welfare degraded. That will come. We still have civil society in Canada and that is buoying us up. In fact, our civil society has grown substantially in the last few months. Maybe that is the secret sauce and why town halls are so effective in the USA.

She was roughed up. Next thing on the agenda, Poppy Bush invades Panama to evict his old chum, Manuel Noriega, and destroy evidence of his own complicity in sundry treasons.

was some dark **** going on with the US and Latin America back then.

We had neighbours at our Quebec cottage growing up. They were the most peaceful American couple. She worked at the Smithsonian. He smoked a pipe and worked for the US government. He was of Greek descent. They'd often row into the local bays to watch the wildlife. They didn't have a morterboat for the first few years. When we would be invited over to their cottage we would bring rocks and mica over for the wife to check out because of her job. They were lovely.

Turns out he was CIA and was in the book Missing by Ed Horman based on the US Government's involvement in his journalist son Charles Horman death during the 1973 Coup in Chili. The movie "Missing" is about it. Our pipe smoking neighbour was at the White House planning the coup in the book.

What the U.S. Media told us, vs what the entire rest of the world was shown about the Panama Invasion was 180 degrees apart.
An award winning documentary on the Panama Invasion was distributed through out the world, but BANNED here in the U.S.
I watched a copy shown to me by a respected European Journalist.......it was appalling what the U.S. Military truly did down there.

And most distressing was the fact it was totally done, TO DIVERT THE U.S. PUBLICS ATTENTION from something else that the HWBush/Cheney/Reagan CABAL was doing in the shadows here in the U.S..

HELL, HW and the CIA had originally installed Noriega down there to be in charge of the transportation of drugs into the U.S.......

And then just ignore her while she's there. Don't agree to meetings. Don't invite her to any cultural events going on. Don't pick up the phone from her. Make her fly back with her tail between her legs

Passive aggressive will work. Nothing overtly mean that would allow the man baby to have a tantrum.

Carney and O'Bama are of the same superb caliber in my view.

Pragmatic, progressive, caring realists dedicated to doing good for the populace they are honored to serve.

I admire a great deal bout this man.

politician and he is learning fast. He's pretty cool but he doesn't quite have Obama's ability to translate cool in every situation. That is the only big difference I see. Carney is very charming like Obama (i come to you) vs. charisma like Trump has (you come to me). True grownups know the difference.
