A proposal to consider a new forum at DU - DU Charts

I posted ed on this thread-
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220176044

My comments-

10. Stock price to actual sales would be interesting charts to combine and update.

I'd really like to follow these 2 datapoints......would be a great chart for DU to create/update....perhaps an entire forum of easy to understand - MAGAT simple DU Charts that report the effects of the Trump regime's effort to destroy this country. We should / could use important metrics to monitor, going forward.....maybe add Biden's last 12 months as the baseline reference. For example, Wholesale price of eggs vs. Bird Flu/CDC policy funding changes. And give DU Charts front page exposure.

That sounds like a great idea. Without data, we are left with personal anecdotes about what an individual or a few; individuals are experiencing. Now, we CAN learn something from people's 'lived experiences', but these observations can serve as a spring board for further discussion and maybe a proposal about how to study or collect more information on the phenomenon. (Not quite at the level of a testable hypothesis, but at least a basis for systematic collection of data, or even a better formulation of the question at hand).

OK, it seems that I have gone on blathering about things everybody here already knows. I just REALLY like data and it's study and testing.

EarlG and Elad have the creative and technical chops to pull this off. Figuring and tracking, what 2 (or even 3) inter-related variables would make a great discussion point. Trumps personal income vs GDP growth would be another fun chart to track. Some creative chart scaling would be required.

There is an interesting chart on this page: https://www.factcheck.org/2025/03/qa-on-egg-prices/

Basically, the results of the Covid shock to the economy produced inflation which Biden tamed and trump doesn't give a shit about. magas will recall, either knavishly knowing, or dim-wittedly ignorant, the prior peak and forget that Biden made the valley. They will go on to blame the inflation as a leftover, which ignores the three big elephants in the room: the chainsaw, the ICE, and the tariff tax.

Many economists say the primary reason is the highly pathogenic avian influenza – caused by the H5N1 virus – that has been spreading among poultry, dairy cows and wild animals in the U.S. since January 2022. What is now the largest bird flu outbreak since 2015 has caused an egg shortage, as tens of millions of egg-producing hens have had to be killed to prevent further spread of the virus.

Trump's made sure that the water available for the Central Valley is unavailable this summer, but there won't be migrants to pick the produce, anyway. So we will import our food at much higher volumes. And we'll pay 2x the impact of the tariffs that Trump has implemented.

When I taught my 1st grade students how to read charts and graphs as a math lesson I knew they are the fastest way to get info. They always did well when any lesson had charts, etc. When kids can't read well yet they can get the same info from a written page via a graph/chart. It's ideal for anyone who can't read written english.
