Democrats say Signal chats highlight pattern of sloppy security by Trump officials
Democrats on the Senate intelligence panel hammered Trump administration officials on Tuesday about their participation in a group chat on Signal that discussed war plans and broadened their attacks to call it a disturbing pattern of sloppy security under President Donald Trump.
I think this is one more example of sloppy, careless, incompetent behavior, particularly towards classified information," Senate Intelligence Committee ranking member Mark Warner (D-Va.) said at the annual worldwide threats hearing. The Signal fiasco is not a one-off."
Five of the nations spy chiefs, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, were testifying before members of the Senate Intelligence Committee on major threats to the United States and global stability, including potential risks from China and Iran.
But Tuesdays hearing came just one day after The Atlantic published a bombshell report, which revealed that the publications Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg was added to a Signal chat with top Trump administration officials discussing plans to strike Yemen.
