So, not every law firm ripping out their collective spines in the face of bullying? Good to know.

"Read Jenner & Block's lawsuit challenging Trump's unconstitutional assault on their firm.👇 Very glad to see Jenner fighting back. They're represented by Cooley, which is taking a risk here too.

Block (the Order)is an unconstitutional abuse of power against lawyers, their clients, and the
legal system. It is intended to hamper the ability of individuals and businesses to have the lawyers
of their choice zealously represent them. And it is intended to coerce law firms and lawyers into
renouncing the Administrations critics and ceasing certain representations adverse to the
government.
2. The Order is one of the latest in a series of materially identical executive orders
one of which has already been enjoined by a court in this Districttargeting law firms without
process based on their representation of clients in matters adverse to the President or his
Administration and/or their associations with individuals who have criticized the President. The
Wall Street Journal Editorial Board recognized that the President is taking these actions to
intimidate elite law firms from representing his opponents or plaintiffs who challenge his policies.

Ocelot II
(123,862 posts)This quote from Shakespeare's Henry VI, Part II is often used to bust on lawyers - but it wasn't meant for that at all. The line is spoken by the villainous Dick the Butcher, a follower of the insurrectionist Jack Cade, whom Shakespeare describes as the head of an army of rabble and a demagogue pandering to the ignorant. Dick is saying that for their coup to succeed they must first eliminate the lawyers - the first line of defense against the demagogue.
Trump is trying to "kill" all the lawyers, and for exactly the same reason, and if he succeeds we are well and truly finished. If lawyers haven't the stones to keep litigating against his crimes against democracy because they're too afraid of losing clients, shame on those cowards. Trump is going after the big firms because they have the resources to take on these cases, and he's trying to put them out of business if they don't give up. There are 149 cases in the works right now, https://www.justsecurity.org/107087/tracker-litigation-legal-challenges-trump-administration/ - and so far Trump is losing. If he kills all the lawyers there will be no more cases. So, kudos to Jenner & Block and Marc Elias and all the others who are keeping the faith.

Two major law firms are taking the Trump administration to court on Friday, seeking to block executive orders that the firms say target them for zealous representation of clients and their hearty pro bono work.
The lawsuit by the Jenner & Block firm, filed in federal district court in Washington, D.C., alleges violations of the First Amendment guarantees to free speech and free association. It also alleges the order violates the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment by hurting the firm's ability to practice law; and violates the Sixth Amendment, for undermining the relationship between attorneys and their clients, and clients' right to lawyers of their choosing.
A separate lawsuit by the WilmerHale law firm said the executive action Trump took on Thursday punishes the firm for employing former special counsel Robert Mueller and other public servants who worked alongside him.
WilmerHale's lawsuit said the White House is retaliating against it for representing the Democratic National Committee, the campaigns of Democratic politicians Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and for suing the administration this year over its firing of several inspectors general.
The lawsuits come after President Trump signed executive orders this week, which attempted to restrict both firms' access to federal buildings, yank any active security clearances held by its personnel, and direct government employees not to meet with the firm or its members.
