1. I'd say what he hightlighted is that MAGA "conservatives" are just reactionaries: knee-jerk antiliberals

They define themselves by what they're opposed to: liberals and anything liberal. I "credit" Rush Limbaugh with converting Regan's "conservative movement" into a purely reactionary movement, literally demonizing liberals because they believe in liberalism, and liberalism because those demon liberals believe in it. MAGA cultists are consumed by their hatred of liberals, and no one should waste time trying to talk them out of it, because it makes them feel better about being shitty people.

4. They certainly "conserve" their empathy

I have a theory that if someone developed a psychological test that was 99% accurate in measuring empathy, you could also use it to tell conservative from liberals with 99% accuracy -- no need to ask about policy. And many of them are just as proud as Musk of their contempt for empathy.
