What Ukraine and Greenland have in common?

They are both rich in "rare earth" minerals.

They are both subjects of invasion or talk of invasion.

They are both subjects of dictators dreams.

Vladimir Putin has already invaded Ukraine and was pushed back. Donald Trump has said he wants Greenland and he refuses to take a military invasion off the table.

Do you see the comparison? The invasion of Greenland would legitimize the ruthless invasion of Ukraine.

Donald Trump could be just like Putin.

"Invasions" happen all the time. They are a good thing. And the lies continue...

That country is riddled with Rare Earth Minerals too.

'Think how history will remember you if you Make America Bigger!' and 'You would make a great war-time POTUS!' So easy to manipulate the sick man-baby who never grew up and who can never be satisfied because deep inside, he knows he is a vile, unlovable fraud.

Then he could play generalissimo , probably have special uniform made with lots of pretend medals and sparkly gold epaulets and parades with troops marching, all eyes turned toward him. Meanwhile, the real rulers gobble up everything and leave the world in ruin.

But even if proven (pure speculation at this point), how the hell do you get to them in quantities that are economically viable?! They're covered in hundreds to thousands of meters of ice!!! An ice cap so big and deep you can't wrap your mind around it. And even with "drill baby drill" it's not melting in our lifetimes.

We're not invading Greenland. That's article 5. That ain't happening. In my mind, it's a silly smoke screen while they raid and pillage elsewhere.

Putin's invasion of Ukraine has lowered the bar for similar actions.

Yes, that could be Trump and Greenland.

It was Azerbaijan and Armenia.

But Turkey's also moved in a bit farther into Kurdish areas.

Maduro continues his nationalist bravado of wanting 2/3 of Guyana because of a Versaille-level historical "injustice" that should be remedied at present. I'm surprised Bolivia hasn't renewed its territorial claims or at least access to the Pacific (so Red Dwarf's "Bolivian Navy on maneouvres" or however the swipe at Bolivia went is not unfounded--landlocked Bolivia has a navy).

The PCR is ever more nationalistically sabre-rattling and sharpening with a view to Taiwan.

Rwanda wants east Congo's minerals, and it doesn't help that for decades it's been said that either Rwandan speakers were wrongly put on the Congolese side of the border or that "enemies" are building up troops there for an invasion. Lowering the bar in Ukraine lowered the bar there, too.

Milei has his hands full with Argentina's long-standing economic disaster, so at least harping over the Falklands/Malvinas isn't likely to resurface for this round of economic buffoonery.

And as we talk about the recently indigenized Chagossians and their travails with the remains of the Empire that first forcibly removed the now ever-indigenous to those atolls, let's not forget that Mauritius has also claimed those specks of barely land and made some non-trivial threats over them.
