3. Might actually benefit the FN

The "heir apparent" has long been Marion Marechal Le Pen.

The Patriarch Jean-Marie said so much a decade ago...

Today, Marion came out and blasted the Judges... setting herself up as the next FN candidate... she's just 35 and seen as farther to the right than Marine, her Aunt.

She would simply fold her own Liberte Party into the FN... run on he sympathy and anger card for Marine...

Plus the recent death of Jean-Marie could serve as a catalyst for the Right.

Beware...

5. Even so, it took longer to charge her (7 years) than to charge tRump (2 and a bit).

Offence: 2004 through 2016. Charges in 2023, seven years later.

In January 2014, the European Anti-Fraud Office opened an investigation into Marine Le Pen after receiving a tip-off alleging that she had hired fictitious assistants during her term as Member of the European Parliament (MEP), which began in 2004. The investigation found that Catherine Griset, Le Pen's chief of staff, had only worked around 12 hours between October 2014 and August 2015, when she was supposedly Le Pen's assistant.[3]

As the investigation continued, it widened to include a number of other RN politicians who had served as MEPs or had been hired as assistants to MEPs, including Louis Aliot, Bruno Gollnisch, Julien Odoul, and Nicolas Bay.[4]

In December 2023, French authorities announced that they would be charging Le Pen and twenty-six other members of the RN with embezzlement, with a trial to be held before the Tribunal judiciaire de Paris.[5] She faced up to ten years incarceration and be barred from running for election for ten years.[6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rally_assistants_affair

7. Shocking --- who would've thunk you could ban criminals from running from office

So, someone guilty of crimes could have been stopped from running

If only some judge or legislature had thought of that in the United States.

Liek if you were found to be an insurrectionist in violation of the 14th amendment you could be kept off the ballot...

SMH in disgust at how worthless the DOJ, courts, etc. are in the US

Marine Le Pen‘s presidency dreams are in tatters after she has been banned from running in the next French presidential election.

The leader of the far-right National Rally (RN) has been banned from running for office for five years, meaning she will not be able to contest the French presidential election in 2027.

This comes after she was found guilty of embezzling European funds to finance her party.

Along with the ban, Le Pen was also sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, two of which will be suspended.

However, she may not actually spend time behind bars, and could instead be given restrictions such as wearing an electronic tag, the BBC reports.

Le Pen is expected to appeal this sentence, so it will not apply immediately.

She was also given a €100,000 (£82,635) fine
