Midnight Writer
(23,614 posts)His remarkably attractive young secretary caused a publicity stir when she testified that she snuck documents out of a secure location by hiding them in her panties.
He was arrested and convicted of misusing funds, but the conviction was overturned.
His big scheme was to sell missiles to Iran (even though that was forbidden by law as Iran was our enemy), put the money for the sales into a slush fund, and used that money to fund Right-Wing death squads in Central America.
This was a test of rehabilitating a villain's reputation by the Republicans. Instead of reputing his illegal actions, the Republican Party made a full-on offensive to portray him as a patriotic hero. It worked. As evidenced by people to this day confused about his role in the scandal, such as thinking he was a whistle-blower.
Oh, and when his boss, Ronald Reagan, was questioned about his illegal activities, he answered "I can't recall" over a hundred times.

Be careful because "thewhiteroseresistance.life" is another anti-abortion abomination.
I do remember this whole Iran-Contra fiasco - I was actually working as a DOD contractor while this was going down.
