Talk about a third term is just a way for Trump to boost his ego.

You know, the nebulous "people" who tell him all kinds of things to affirm his lies. Nobody tells him anything.

The media is running here and there, "Trump is doing this! Trump is doing that! Trump signed an executive order claiming this! Trump is changing elections with that!" It's all bullshit. He can't do any of it, and the bottom line is that they can't make it happen, unless they completely subvert the Constitution and pull off some kind of coup, which he lacks the courage to try.

I'm torn between a couple of scenarios regarding all of this load of baloney he peddles to keep his ugly, wrinkled mug in front of television cameras. One is that when he takes the inevitable step too far, that affirms for the American people the reality of the threat to their democracy that he really is, there will be an uprising that will make January 6th look like a Sunday School picnic, resulting in a hole left in the ground where the White House, or Trump Tower, or Mar-a-Lago once stood, and no evidence of anyone who was inside ever surfacing again. The other is that Americans will passively stand by and ignorantly let it happen because they are too stupid and lazy to know better. I was kind of impressed with the Tesla protest, it was sizeable, largely peaceful and from Musk's reaction to it, hugely successful.

I think it is important to make the ability to restrain a corrupt politician something that can be done inside the boundaries of constitutional propriety. I think being able to stop him without resorting to anything beyond peaceful, massive protest and using the tools the Constitution gives us would be a major victory. But some of what he's touching has the potential to be volatile, like Social Security. The size and scope of resistance has grown exponentially, so we will see what kind of reaction that brings about. Every gas station in my area now has stickers on the pumps reminding those who pull up that the 30 cent per gallon increase that we have experienced since Biden left office is due to Trump's tariffs.

A third term ain't happenin'. Nor is his image ever going up on Mt. Rushmore.

6. Dictators don't run for re-election. They sieze and hold power.

Oh, there may be an "election," just as there is in Russia. But the outcome is predetermined.

Not saying The Felon will succeed, but that's his intent.

This article in Politico is not aging well:

No, Fascism Can’t Happen Here - POLITICO Magazine

"My argument is pretty simple: American fascism cannot happen anymore because the American government is so large and unwieldy. It is simply too hard for the fascists, or for that matter other radical groups, to seize control of. No matter who is elected, the fascists cannot control the bureaucracy, they cannot control all the branches of American government, they cannot control the judiciary, they cannot control semi-independent institutions such as the Federal Reserve, and they cannot control what is sometimes called “the deep state.” The net result is they simply can’t control enough of the modern state to steer it in a fascist direction."

Umm yes they can. Amazingly enough the Doge nazis have crippled several departmental bureaucracies with mass firings. They are ignoring the courts. They do have all three branches of government (House, Senate and White House) and the Supreme Court. The Kennedy Center is a "semi-independent non-profit organization" and look at it. The Fed might be next. It looks like the US is literally a House of Cards. Who knew? So much for a deep state that defends itself. If it existed this little experiment in destruction would be black bagged.

I don't know, maybe most Americans will just sit still and not move. But I don't think that will be the case. He'll get shut down.
