Tips from AARP on traveling outside the US with a cellphone

Lots of concern on DU about having US agents scanning cellphones upon returning back to the US. Some tips from AARP on how to avoid the scanning of your cellphone.

https://www.aarp.org/travel/travel-tips/secure-phone-returning-from-trip.html

It’s a sad state of affairs when we have to go to such lengths to avoid having our cellphones scanned, and even sadder that AARP felt they need to inform us how to avoid it.

A Trump-supporting CPB agent can deliberately make life miserable for US citizens returning to the US with no consequences. I will be traveling to Europe later this year and am definitely concerned about having my phone searched. It’s unlikely, but many of my comments here and on Facebook criticize Trump as stupid and unfit, which is now a crime in this administration.

I don't travel much anymore these days. Now I don't want to leave the US for fear that other countries might treat me the same way the US is treating foreign travelers. If I did leave the US, I would just get a burner phone for the trip and leave my regular phone at home. Thanks for posting this though!

that AARP refused to take a stand on the election by endorsing Kamala. They like to use the old line of "we have always chosen to not endorse any one candidate". Pure b.s. when the country's and it's seniors lives are on the line like it was this last election.

I have had Trusted Traveller Status (Global Entry Pass) for several years. I also have the Maryland State Driver's License Real ID for travelling within the USA.

I have updated my Global Entry Pass with my new US passport number. I completed all formalities for PP renewal BEFORE 20 Jan 2025, just in case, and received the new PP right away.

I will also be flying into Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) in the great "blue" state of MD.

If anyone dares to try any of this BS on ME, I will let them know that it is a VERY easy matter for me to reinstate my MD Bar License and sue the lot of them.

I will NOT go down without making LOUD "good trouble" so that others will think twice about attempting this crap on anyone without "probable cause" other than expressing a political opinion.

And F*ck Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem, the Felon-in-Chief who appointed them, and every Senator who voted to confirm them!
