(18 posts)I have worn Levi's blue jeans almost daily for nearly fifty years. They are an iconic American brand. I'm happy they are supporting real American values instead of folding like a cheap suit like so many other once-proud institutions have.

(7,009 posts)I will need to purchase a replacement pair of jeans later in the year (one of three) and Levies will be the blue jeans of choice.

Seriously, good on them!

(2,146 posts)... that, according the the Wayback Machine, the original Levis had rivets in the top corners of the back pockets. But cowboys complained that the rivets damaged the cantles of their saddles, which were considerably higher than today's western saddles with their Cheyenne rolls and such. So the good Mr. Levi did away with the back-pocket rivets.

(33 posts)I just want to let people know that Levi's isn't a good old-fashioned apple pie American company based out of San Francisco anymore. During the Reagan '80s when our factories were shuttered and jobs sent to Mexico, Levi's was still made here. When they finally left it was a punch to the gut.

(33 posts)I realize it wasn't exactly what was being discussed but the company's policy being praised kind of obscures the fact that it doesn't have the same relationship with this country as it used to. As a woman, Levi's jeans for men saved my butt--literally--in the early '90s when the Britney Spears fad of low-riding jeans showed the butt crack when you sat down. That was horrible enough but they were also so uncomfortable. The problem was that by then they were no longer being manufactured in the USA and I believe I had dye issues with streaks forming. That's a no-no.

(20,347 posts)And the point is that the company supports DEI, and DEI s a good thing, despite what Schlump would have you believe.
P.S. The company's corporate headquarters are still in San Francisco, btw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levi%27s_Plaza

(19,184 posts)don't see that name in member lookup.
There are trolls and many DU members are probably very good at recognizing them.
This just didn't seem "trollish" to me.

(11,061 posts)he left his fortune to his brother-in-law and sister's children, who were responsible for a number of Bay Area charities and institutions (such as Stern Grove, site of free concerts in the summer). They're still active - the new mayor of San Francisco is one of the heirs. I didn't know Dan Goldman was related- it's nice to see the family still giving back to the country that made them.
