Omaha has a new Mayor. John Ewing Jr. not only upset the outgoing Mayor, he won by about 11 points. Jean Stothert had been mayor for 3 straight terms.
Ewing is the 1st African American to mayor in the history of Omaha. People were fed up with Stotherts leadership and lack of accountability. Ewing was the Douglas County Treasurer for many years.
Gov. Pilen(R) was disappointed that more republicans didnt get out and vote. But says that he will work with Omahas newly elected mayor.
Omaha is turning Blue and just maybe the state will follow?
Im sign off now to go be with our family.

(7,800 posts)Was the light turnout a sign of the times? I think the Governor is worried.

Trump won Nebraska in 2024 with almost 60% of the vote. Outside of Omaha and Lincoln, the rest of the state is red.
Maybe we can at least make that state purple.

(2,853 posts)it looks like there were about 85k votes as opposed to 96k four years ago, and 98k four years before that. The Republican vote went from 52k to 63k to just 38k this year with the same Republican candidate each time.
