Fighting MAGA at a local furniture store.

My husband and I were shopping for a glider for our small patio. We found a furniture warehouse in Cleveland that had what we were looking for. We were standing at the desk chatting with the salesman and had paid for our purchase and were making delivery plans.
I looked behind the desk and saw a picture of Canada covered in a US flag and some nonsense about the Gulf of America. I pointed at the picture and said to my husband cancel the order, which he immediately did. The salesman said why are you canceling and I pointed to the sign. I said we don’t believe in mixing business and politics. He said, wow that never happened before. As we were leaving I said that I lost a brother to Vietnam and I am sick of all the bullshit and we walked out the door. It felt so good to fight back in a small way.

Years ago, Cabela did a similar thing. On the cash register receipts they had a line item charge listed as an OBAMA tax.
It posted a dollar figure, but it wasn't added into the total.
I wrote a not so unkind letter to Cabela, telling them that I would no longer be buying a couple of thousands dollars of their products as I had in previous years because of their political opinions. Instead I would be buying from other sources that offered comparable products. (I mentioned that they could reference my past orders to verify it was THOUSANDS of dollars they would lose....)

Dick's Sporting Goods came out with a stand on discontinuing assault type weapons in their stores. They took them all, and had them shipped to a location that literally destroyed them all, not even trying to sell them to some other retail groups......The right wing Trumphumping second amendment people had a fit over this, saying that would destroy Dick's as none of them would buy anything from Dicks again.......I went into Dicks for my first time, buying some things I needed, and telling the manager of the store that I would be buying all my stuff that I could from them for their stand on assault weapons. He laughed, and told me that many people had come in saying the same thing. He told me that the management of the company feared a loss of sales revenue, but surprisingly ever since their announcement, their sales revenue was UP.......by TWENTY PERCENT......LOL

I did the same to U-Line, and told them that I deeply resented that they had put in their massive catalog, a full page color letter by the owners wife, doing a rah-rah for the fascist Republican Party. I now buy all my company's stuff from other outlets.....

The simplest definition of FASCISM, is the merger of Corporations and Government.........

I have to believe that just as they have Renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, that they will soon change the United States of America, to the United Corporations of America, or the Corporate Tyranny of America......

With the Trump CABAL most recently ignoring a unanimous decision of the United States Supreme Court's ruling, we inch closer each and every day to a Fascist Dictatorship......

We have a restaurant that recently opened in my area. I previewed the menu on the website and it has the fish entrees listed as coming from the "Gulf of America".

Nope...won't have my business. They could have simply said "the Gulf", and left it at that. But they HAD to make a statement.

What if the manager and most of the workers are Democrats, but the owner is MAGA? What if one owner is a Democrat, while the other is MAGA? There are certain purity levels to go by that we may differ on.

I know one restaurant owner who hates politics; doesn't even vote. He puts on Fox news. When asked why, he said "my business is in a Bright Red area, it's what the customers want." Should he be punished too?

One can be TOO KIND to customers.

He should vote. Is watching Fox News voter suppression?

I sure as hell wouldn't dine there.

Make their food high quality and also the entertainment.

Anecdote: We had a TV set in the kitchen during the Vietnam War. Dad insisted on watching the news (which was gut-wrenching) at dinner.

I disagreed, especially being of draft age, and not so interested in tales of death and destruction at dinner.

So, I asked Mom to make a small portion before dinner time so I could abstain from the gore and falsehoods, coming back with the coonskin on the wall, and napalm bombings.

If they just run a store and keep politics out of it, then you can shop there if you like.

We had a local jewelry store that had loads of Bush signs up around the store. They almost closed down because people stopped shopping there, and told them why. The owners were upset, they evidently thought they'd do better.

A local plant nursery/garden/landscape place had done the same. Huge Bush crap all over the fences, the doors and so on. Business dropped off dramatically. The signs came down, and none went up at the next election, not local or national.

If we make it known that this is not acceptable in a business, it will stop. We can't change their minds personally, but we can make them think twice about how they run their businesses.

Oh, I don't patronize stores with the Jeebus fish, either. Nothing about Christianity, or any other religion, or I take my business elsewhere. I made a comment at a local thrift store run by a charity that was selling signs and bumper stickers about Jesus Saves or something, about what did it say in the book of Matthew? They no longer sell those things. Was it just me, or did enough people make it clear this was not acceptable? No idea, but it's nice to not have that mess in my face when I go in.

is definitely vhoosing to be part of the problem.

The “punishment” people are talking about in this thread is choosing to not do business with a place that is MAGA or promoting MAGA propaganda.

In your example the business owner said that playing Fox News is “what the customers want”. By his reasoning, if I don’t want to have Fox News playing, I must not be a customer.

He is actively catering to a certain slice of potential customers based on their political views. I, likewise, will choose to spend my money at a certain slice of businesses based on their political views and related actions.

To me this sounds like a very mutual agreement where he isn’t interested in my concerns as a customer and I am not interested in doing business with him.

If you want to call that a “punishment” on my part you are, of course, free to do so.

I stopped going to a restaurant down the street from my house because they have Fox News playing on 3 huge TVs in the place at all times. I didn't let them know why but I think that should be warranted. There's also a brewery not too far from me that I would normally go to, but because they advertise themselves as having "patriot values" and have fundraisers for MAGA politicians there, I avoid that place like the plague. I lost three uncles who died fighting to preserve our freedoms. They all died before I was born and I am named after one of them, something I am extremely proud of. I never had to serve, so I try to carry on their legacy by fighting the good fight in the political realm. I am so upset and frustrated with the nonchalance so many Americans have toward preserving what so many have fought and died for. Good for you not only for cancelling your order, but for letting them know why. It may seem like a small contribution, but if we all do the same it can have an impact. So thank you.
