Boeing won a large deal for widebody jets Wednesday, with Qatar Airways placing an order for at least 160 aircraft during a visit to Doha by President Donald Trump.
The agreement was signed by the carrier amid a flurry of deals between Gulf nations and the US during the presidents visit to the region. Neither side provided a breakdown of the order book, but Bloomberg News previously reported that Qatar is mainly interested in Boeings 787 Dreamliner model.
The commitment provides a big commercial win for Boeing, which has emerged from a difficult year and is now under new leadership. Trump has also faulted the planemaker for repeated delays on the latest Air Force One presidential jets. On Wednesday, he congratulated Boeing Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg, who was also on location, for closing the deal.

Plus it is very easy to cancel orders partially later.

(124,696 posts)Still, it takes years to complete deals like this, and they can fall apart easily. One such deal did fall apart after several years because of delivery delays. https://northwestairlineshistory.org/aircraft-boeing-787-8/ It could be just a plan for a deal, announced for the purpose of Trump-fluffing and driving up Boeing's stock.

So, yes, from the excerpt you give, it is indeed a "coincidence". A quid pro quo would be Trump doing something favourable for Qatar.
