Meanwhile theres 10 outrageous things this administration and the Republicans are doing to the whole country every day.

(20,627 posts)The majority of those bitching and moaning DON'T EVEN FUCKING LIVE IN NYC!!!!! Who NYC Dems pick as their mayoral nominee has negligible to zero impact on the national Democratic Party.
The Republic is burning to the fucking ground and they're worried about the NYC mayor's race!!! WTF?!!!

(3,287 posts)This will define us. We could gain or lose young people. Millions of immigrants could be more at risk. Businesses and Institutions that impact the whole country will be affected. History will be made, one way or the other.
Whether NYC is in a position to fight under Mamdani or capitulates to Trump under Adams matters.
Whether Cuomo uses this as a comeback to run for president matters.
Do we care how our national Democratic leaders behave, and do you think that only impacts NYC?
If NYC doesn't matter to those of us who don't live there, then why am I sweating what is happening in LA? Why do I care about the immigrants there and the forest fires that are being affected by National Guard being diverted? Why do I even listen to the news?

(3,287 posts)Does Schumer only lead Dems in NYC or does he have a national leadership role? Is Hakeem Jefferies only relevant to nYC?
Do you really think if our national party leaders and Dems outside of NYC destroy a duly elected NYC nominee, that young people outside of NYC won't notice?
Given that NYC is nearly half the populations of NY state, do you think losing the young vote in our 2nd biggest blue state doesn't matter, like we don't need them anymore because, fascism?
You think this has nothing to do with you. You think it could have no impact on Trump and fascism.
You certainly don't have to engage on this subject if you don't think it matters, but telling others they are wrong to do so is ridiculous.
Shall I compare your argument to some cartoonish character in a movie based on sexist selfish adolescent entitled drunks to get my point across?

(508 posts)Bernie, AOC and now Mamdani are the most effective resistance. They lead the way out of this mess. Make no mistake, the NYC election is of national importance. If we win it is a very big FU to the fascists and it can spark change across the country. This is the way fight now.

(3,287 posts)How do we ignore this?
If Democratic leaders can't support a duly elected candidate because he's a Muslim or too Progressive for the establishment, we have a problem.
Cuomo would use the mayorship to launch a presidential campaign.
Adams will do whatever Trump tells him to.
This election will impact the country and the party.
What happens matters.

(18,572 posts)This is what we need.
I heard Nicole tell Stephen Colbert Democrats are just one Leader away from restoring the party, but here you have the constant liars and back biters, who are afraid of new blood.
I have been saying this for a couple of months now but Democrats keep dragging out the past. That is gone, we now need to move ahead but every conversation goes back into an old grievance from the past.

(18,572 posts)And she is once again lying like a dog about ,the new Governor. He is actually going out to the various groups, listening to them while she screeches.
This has been playing out all day on MSNBC. democrats need to quit lecturing, shut up and listen to how the young feel. Otherwise there will be no Democratic Party.
Kirsten hounded Al out of office because of a few jokes. I do not want to hear anything she says.

(18,572 posts)And her actions since taking Hillarys place. She destroyed Franken over a joke and now is attacking Mamdani with lies the same way she did Al..
Mamdan is going out to the different groups listening and trying to bring groups together such as blacks and Jewish.
MSNBC HASD ALMOST EVERY PROGRAM on on this subject Monday.
They welcomed Donny Deutch and Al Sharpton to discuss not falling into that hole where Blacks and Jewish stop fighting each other. Democrats have to quit the endless lecturing and start listening to what the people want, especially the young .
Who voted for him.. most of the cable links are Facebook.

(5,047 posts)And while it is true that for the past few cycles the Dem has handily won the general NYC mayoral election, it's hardly an entrenched "precedent". Bloomberg was mayor until 2013.
This is a divisive enough election with enough candidates (4) that it's not inconceivable for him to lose. In that event, I just hope it isn't Sliwa
(for the record I like the guy)
True Blue American
(18,572 posts)My mistake but he is worth listening to.
I just began to really listen to what he is saying, and learning his name.
We Buckeyes usually pay little attention to NY! We have too many problems of our own.🥴

(3,287 posts)Not just because I like Mamdani (I do!)
But because Adams is a crook and a Trump pawn, Cuomo was thrown out of office for reasons that remain and we could have him muddying the waters in a future presidential election--the rest of the country aware of his famous name but not his flaws. His election would force Dems to excuse sexual harrassment and essentially silence us on the subject in relatlon to Trump. Then there is Sliwa--ugh.
I agree that Mamdani's election is not a given. That is why Dem leaders need to support him, not add to the discrimination he already faces. It could make the difference. Note that Mark Green was heavily favored to beat BLoomberg, but failed in part because of Democratic infighting. The Ferrerra campaign accused Mark Green of racism over some flyers he was later proven not to have produced. This and the change in primary date because of 9/11 drained Green's resources while Bloomberg spent exponentially more money than had ever been spent in any mayoral election in history.
For Dems who don't like how Progressive Mamdani is, they should consider whether that is worse than the alternatives.
Mamdani won't be able to pass much of his Progressive agenda. He'll make some things happen, but it won't be as dramatic as many fear (and some of us wish). He will at this critical moment inspire, lead, and infuse optimism, compassion and vision into our politics. He'll fire up young people, and shine as a contrast to the Republicans and Trump.

(2,145 posts)We can have an intelligent conversation about the issues without outside input.
They are just trying to blow things up to provide cover for themselves and their outrageous anti-democratic policies, anyway.
Everyone should be interested. NYC is the capital of world finance. Who does what there, and how its done matters, and impacts the planet. When a socialist is about to run the money city, people pay attention. How shocking.

(6,294 posts)aren't going to save us so I'm looking at Democrats to lead the charge. I care about races in many cities and states. I care about decisions the Democratic Party makes. I walk and chew gum at the same time. It all matters to me and I damn well care about Democrats making baseless accusations about a young charismatic engaging and inspiring winner of a Democratic primary against a disgraced Democrat with lots of money and powerful entities behind him.
