The Trump administration is corruptly targeting Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) with criminal investigation using the same tactic it has used against New York Attorney General Letitia James: allegations of mortgage fraud.
Fannie Mae has reportedly made a criminal referral against Schiff to the Trump Justice Department. President Trump happily touted the news about his former impeacher on social media.

Trumps not targeting just any Democrats. Hes targeting precisely who he has promised to target: Democrats who came after him. James, among other things, won that massive $300+ million fraud case against the Trump Org. Schiff, then in the House, was the lead prosecutor in the first Trump impeachment and has continued to be a chief Trump antagonist.

(2,750 posts)Of course. Perhaps you are trying to play gotcha and suggest that others are recommending violence so you can easily dismiss their observations?
It could well be that electoral, legislative and judicial solutions are now out of reach. That has happened many times throughout history, and all of the signs are there that is is happening in the US now. That means that the crisis calls for a different approach. There are many non-violent forms of resistance.
reACTIONary
(6,575 posts)... that you may have been hinting at violence. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for clarification.
What exactly is "militant resistance"? Does that mean shutting down a highway by flooding it with protesters? That sort of thing has been going on for some time. That would not seem to be a different approach. What is it that you are advocating?
Cirsium
(2,750 posts)I haven't been "hinting at violence."
I am not "advocating" anything.
You are confusing tactics with strategy and purpose, and confusing means with ends. Start with the crisis, not with a debate about tactics. Imagine you are challenging the Abolitionists back in the 1850s.
You: "what are you advocating?"
Answer: "an end to slavery."
You: "what approach are you suggesting?"
Answer: "whatever it takes."
Start with looking to the Women's Suffrage movement, the Abolition movement, the Labor movement, and the Civil Rights movement for ideas.
reACTIONary
(6,575 posts)..... the more recent Black Lives Matter movement. It seems like this "militant resistance" is hardly anything new or different and is largely on going. And, by the way, electoral, legislative and judicial solutions are what makes these movements, in the end, successful.
I still don't understand why "militant resistance" is the one and only "avenue of recourse" that we are solely left with, or why you consider it to be lacking. And I'm not sure exactly how "militant resistance" could work without electoral, legislative and judicial solutions being applied.
Cirsium
(2,750 posts)Electoral, legislative and judicial solutions don't make social justice movements successful, social justice movements make electoral, legislative and judicial solutions successful. Electoral, legislative and judicial so-called "solutions" merely represent concessions by those in power they were forced to make by social justice movements. They are usually watered down compromises, of course, designed mainly to quell resistance and protect the interests of the powerful.
reACTIONary
(6,575 posts).... until there are electoral, legislative and judicial solutions, there has not been substantive gains. Without such reforms the movement has either failed, or is still a work in progress.
So, whatever else is going on, declaring that "electoral, legislative and judicial solutions are now out of reach" is not only untrue, it is also defeatist.
And I'm still wonder what the one and only remaining course of action might be. Any idea?
Cirsium
(2,750 posts)Until there are electoral, legislative and judicial solutions, there have not been substantive gains?
Sure there have been, many times. One example: slavery was effectively abolished de facto before the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified.
More often than not, elections and legislation merely reflect social and political change that has already happened. The mysterious failure by so many Democrats to recognize that obvious truth is a big part of the reason why we struggle to defeat the right wing despite broad public support for very progressive policies.
"First we need to get the seats, then we can talk about (fill in the blank with various progressive causes)" has been a mantra with too many Democrats since Reagan. All sorts of compromises then ensue - "in order to win!" It is a formula for disaster and has led to the MAGA nightmare we are now living.
First take and stand and the seats (and the legislation and the judicial decisions) will follow.
reACTIONary
(6,575 posts).... taking a stand look like? Would that be a "No King" protest? Or maybe a protest outside of an ICE detention center? It seems that we are taking that sort of a stand. Or maybe I miss-under-stand 😊.
On the judicial front, it looks like we have been taking a stand. That has not always been successful, but we are racking up some wins. Does that count? Or should we stop taking a stand there? Because it isn't "militant resistance" of some sort?
So I still don't understand why you think "militant resistance" is lacking, or why you think we are not taking a stand. What is it we are supposed to be doing that we are not?

(342 posts)...deputy attorney general. Muller's own background was being the FBI director appointed by George W. Bush. Did anyone really think that investigation was going anywhere? I was shocked that it resulted in charges against 34 individuals and three companies.
There was no world in which an investigation by an appointee of an appointee of the guy being investigated under a department of justice being run by the guy being investigated was ever going to actually point a finger at the guy being investigated.
Garland--having been appointed by Biden--should have had free reign to investigate anything Turnip did without fear of it being quashed by the Biden Administration.

Per this quote from the Fannie Mae website, it seems almost anyone may make a report. So if he is actually charged, Schiff's defense team should make a motion for discovery as to who made the report and discover if it was a "Trumped up" charge. He has the right to face his accuser(s) but they may be cowards hidden by "whistleblower" protections. Shine the lights on these cockroaches who use the justice system to promote smear campaigns just to get negative headlines and never intend to charge someone with a crime. As The Washington Post reported, at least some officials in the administration appear to be taking this seriously.
A senior administration official told The Washington Post that a criminal case had been referred to the Justice Department, in a sharp escalation of the White Houses attacks on vocal Trump critics. ... The senior administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said criminal prosecution is now up to the Justice Department. The official added that this is just the beginning, unfortunately, for Schiff.
.....To the extent that the underlying substance matters, the allegations appear quite thin. From the Posts report:
Designating a home as a primary residence, instead of a secondary home or investment property, can get borrowers lower rates because primary homes are seen as less risky to lenders. But a spokesperson for Schiffs office said the lenders for Schiffs homes in both California and Washington were well aware of his intended year-round use of both homes while in public office and that neither of the properties was a vacation home.
This is just Donald Trumps latest attempt at political retaliation against his perceived enemies, Schiff wrote online. So it is not a surprise, only how weak this false allegation turns out to be.
