Jimmy Kimmel gave a salute to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and blasted rival network CBS on Thursday evening, hours after CBS announced that it is canceling Colberts series in May 2026 and retiring the Late Show brand.
Love you Stephen, Kimmel wrote on his Instagram story, captioning a clip of Colberts on-air announcement that his show would be ending. Fuck you and all your Sheldons CBS.
Shortly after Colbert revealed that The Late Show would be ending during his taping Thursday, CBS confirmed the plans, justifying the cancelation as a purely financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night and emphasizing that it is not related in any way to the shows performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.
The late night formats decline amid the rise of digital media has become a well-known business trend in recent years. Nonetheless, the timing of Colberts cancelation has raised eyebrows among commentators, indicative of a widespread belief that media companies are censoring themselves and capitulating to President Trump.

Well, it's pretty obvious Kimmel thinks it's political. He probably is getting pressure from his bosses to "tone down" the calling out of the rising fascism.
You know, because fascism!

(3,436 posts)He's been doing the show longer than anyone else so there's been speculation that he would leave. He deserves to retire, but I hope it's after Trump leaves.
I think John Oliver and Jon Stewart and Seth Meyers will also face more difficulty in the coming years.

(535 posts)Corporate media companies think they are still independent entities, but their destiny is sealed if Republicans stay in power. The "accommodations" for the fascists will keep happening, until the media companies are so neutered and weak that the fascists won't need them at all, and will just take the remaining content that they want, and eliminate the rest. This is how it always happens with fascists, and it will not be any different in America.
