I got so pissed off today because someone called me a snowflake when I said that and was trying to convey how serious the situation with the Trump administration is. When Trump got elected, it wasn't like other elections; it was a complete loss of faith in humanity. That people would rather elect a convicted rapist, felon and terrorist, who lead an insurgence trying to overthrow our democracy, who inherited a booming economy and through his countless lies and butchering of the pandemic left the country in shambles, then a woman! It's appalling! There are no words for the hatred I feel for this country. Everything I did at Moveon was for nothing! I've wasted my life trying to get people to vote and further liberal policies. In the end, you can't fix stupid. I'm in a country of terrible people who hate people like me. You can't make people care. I've never been more scared of the future. I wish I could move to Canada. The Democratic Underground is the only place for people like me.

(2,518 posts)I hope this is just a rant (we all need them from time to time) and that you can channel your justifiable anger into efforts to make this a country you do want to live in.

(46,073 posts)Midterms coming up, 6 month in and lots of people are (even some who voted for him) sick of him,
Lets keep fighting.
I was in Washington, PA last month.
First night I walked to Applebees late at night.
The walk was an experience. Light rain, area seemed to be built within last 20 years, no effin sidewalks, forget about bike lanes.
Order a burger and beer, bartender checks in on me and says, you arent a local. Now I was wearing a California Republic hat, but still state, I am from CA. Her demeanor immediately changes. Whatever!
Walk back to hotel, in the mud. Next morning go to the lobby to get breakfast.
Fox News on, of course, story comes on about alligator Alcatraz, the room stops. I mean every person is standing/sitting slack jawed watching Douchey interview the FL Gov.
I stand up and throw my stuff away and state, I Dont belong here. An employee laughs and says what? So I repeat, I DONT BELONG HERE! She laughs, likely stuck in red hell. The room just glared at me.
IMO, fuck them, we made this Country great.

(19,367 posts)I think the best thing you can do is to associate with like-minded people "In Real Life".
Got to agree with the stupid. People were so easily conned into voting against their own best interests.
Though, there has been a decades-long propaganda barrage. Sample below.
There's a fascist playbook that comes out every so often and it works.
I am making plans to move from the California wilderness to some non-wilderness part of the state where I can meet dedicated people without a 50 mile drive. That's doable.
Presence is everything, so don't feel alone. You aren't.

(166,336 posts)but do NOT allow these freaks to make you feel worthless, WE ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY.....and we WILL win
I feel all of that too (except not sure I feel "hatred" for the country), including the terror for the future. The fear people are feeling is global and pushing them to the far right, which will only exacerbate the very issues that they are afraid of. I see "the West" in a probably-irreversible downward spiral.
That is why it rubbed me the wrong way when people would offer platitudes...
But what's done is done. Now it is about disaster management and survival.
Thank you for your work with MoveOn.
