Total left hip replacement. This is, er, interesting. Found a walker at Good Will for $9. Racing blue, everybody at the hospital was impressed. Have my Great Grandfather's cane from the 1800s. Op was yesterday afternoon and zero pain overnight. That's a different story today now that I'm up and walking on it. Orders to walk every hour...no rest for the wicked. Desk full of new prescriptions, mostly pain meds. Prime directive is "Don't fall down." Today and tomorrow are supposed to be the worst, we'll see...

Best healing and back to normal for you !

(44,982 posts)From the front, I mean? Hubby has had both hips replaced in the last 5 years in that way - they did it outpatient and the recovery was so much easier.
I hope you're recovery is as easy.

(27,271 posts)2 night hospital stay the first time, and home same day and climbing stairs the second time!
I borrowed a walker and specifically always referred to it as "the" walker rather than "my" walker as I didn't want any sense of long term ownership of it.
I did get a cane, which I used for several weeks. I treated myself to one that looked very like the one used by Maggie Smith's dowager countess character from Downton Abbey. My rationale - if I have to have a cane, it's going to be an elegant one.

(134 posts)DU's the best because of the people. I don't post much, but I've been here over 20 yrs. I'd be lost without this place.

(125,634 posts)hunt for a large (he is over 6'3" shower seat. I was cruising through the ARC on senior day, and found a really great shower chair, excellent condition. $8 with senior discount. They donated it back when it was no longer needed.

(7,276 posts)Do and will do it. Take it easy and watch where you are going and leave lights on over night. No tripping over things or bumping into things.
Take care.👍😊

(7,396 posts)My wife had her right hip replaced three months ago, is now done with the walker and the cane, and her gait is back to normal.
Best tip for starting out, have the walker handy for bathroom trips at night.
And just so ya know, I beat your price on the walker. I paid $7.50 at Goodwill.

(87,209 posts)How long were you IN the hospital?
And how are you feeling? Is the recovery coming along like youve expected?
Taki It Easy!!! And please let us know how youre doing!
1. Just overnite. Some YouTube vids say home the same day! I can't imagine. There's too many things that have to take place, like PT and instructions on stairs, vehicles, showers, etc. BTW, I had a great Doc and the hospital was wonderful, other than some bad mac & cheese.
2. Shitty actually. Just loaded up on drugs this AM.
3. Taking it easy is enforced!

(87,209 posts)My dad used to say Im enjoying poor health. First time I heard that, as a kid, I turned it over and over in my mind for the rest of the day, trying to figure it out.
Keep it easy, my friend.
