Apparently the political contributors on MSNBC

still are analyzing the current situation as if it were business as usual. Both democratic strategic consultants were arguing that no matter what, we democrats can not really shut down the government because we will be blamed for it, regardless of the stakes. Their data point was what happened to the GOP when they did that to stop the passage of the ACA and the subsequent debacle at the polls. I think the situation is not even comparable.

Millions of people are expected to lose their healthcare, unable to afford the average 75% increase in costs for ACA coverage if the subsidies are eliminated.

So, according to them, no matter what democrats do, it's doomed to fail. We do not fight and we will be seen as feckless and deplete the vote on our side, if we stand strong, we will be blamed for the shutdown after a few weeks, where we apparently will give up, and the republicans won't.

This is exactly what the GOP is counting on. I think we should not submit in advance. This time, there is a movement that is starting to emerge and we need to keep pushing back. I would submit that the remedy is not to give up, it is to hold firm and drastically ramp up the information campaign to make it clear which it is critical.

The boards of directors, upper management, and a huge number of pundits, are REPUBLICANS. They've been sabotaging democratic congresscritters and all democrats elected, or aiming to be elected, to office for 40 years.

It does not take a genius to figure out how democrats keep getting tangled in the republican webs.

I didn't see it. I am on news overload. But earlier I did see some really good coverage of the James Comey story by Carol Leonig and Ken Delanian. They broke another story about how charges are imminent against Comey, and did not mince words that they see no evidence to justify them.

One of them was Basil Smilke, I do not remember the name of the other one and have not yet found a clip.

I never watch Katy Tur, but I am surprised at Basil. Oh well, he is one of the "old guard".

1. Try as hard as they can to fight for healthcare for millions of Americans and possibly face a negative backlash over the shutdown if that happens.
2. Do nothing and let millions lose healthcare.
Its pretty simple.

Doesn’t have to be tied into budget extension. I get Democrats don’t think they’ll have leverage outside budget extension.

This may be a pivotal point in our history. The democrats have very little leverage over policy, regardless of what the people on this site think, who keep demanding for the democrats "to do something".
This is something they can do. Good place to draw a line in the sand

the house. Obviously, the democrats don’t control the house today. But absolutely the GOP will start blasting the line that it’s the democrats’ fault. I think they have two reasons for shutting down the government: first is to blame the democrats for the economy as it continues to sink, the second is to continue to delay the release of the Epstein files.

He is correct. He should be on MSNBC, but he can't do that due to the greedy, GOP corporate media gestapo.
