When the economy will be in recession, unemployment rising, healthcare premiums skyrocketing, double digit inflation…

Elections were held during the civil war, and every war, and in the aftermath of 9/11.

Trump is not omnipotent, and the states and the people are not powerless

The USA was not in the grip of a fascist authoritarian dictatorship at any of those past times. Utterly corrupt sycophants to that fascist leader were not in charge of Congress or SCOTUS at those times.

When it comes to federal elections, the congress in DC decides whether or not to honor how those states decided. Remember we came close to having the 2020 election nullified by Trump pressuring Pence to refuse to certify? You think the couch-fucker is going to behave honorably like Pence did?

I don't think there's going to be another real federal election in this country, not the sort we have become accustomed to. I think the refusal to seat Grijalva is the trial balloon. Every day that goes by they get away with not seating her is convincing the fascists of the regime that they literally have ALL THE POWER. And they're not wrong in any way I can detect.

I think US democracy as we knew it ended in January 2025. We are now living in Project 2025. Welcome to Dystopia.

25. Your defeatism is noted for the record
Mon Oct 27, 2025, 10:40 AM

Unless Johnson intends to dissolve congress for the remainder of his term, Grijalva will be seated.

You must have missed the changes to the Electoral College certification laws and processes following January 6. The VP cannot refuse to certify, and objections by congress to a state’s slate of electors are much more difficult to sustain.

If, for some reason, electoral votes are not certified, the incumbent does not remain in office- the constitution provides for the appointment of an acting president, starting with the speaker and proceeding down the line of succession.

Your acceptance of the mythology surrounding Trump’s supposed omnipotence has clouded your reasoning.

Despite daily atrocities and lawlessness committed by this administration, there has been frequent pushback from the courts, the states and the people. For example, the Republican Indiana state legislature is refusing Trump’s demand that they gerrymander their districts to add another republican seat. Deployment of troops has been blocked numerous times in numerous states. There has been just one instance of this administration defying a court order restraining its actions, otherwise, they have used the standard appeals process, whereas full blown fascists would just have the offending judges assassinated.

Defeatism weakens our ability to resist and fight back; it is critical that everyone remember this one absolute truth:

Trump is not omnipotent, and the states and the people are not powerless

If you find yourself wanting to give up, just watch the Portland Antifa Frog! I can't put into words what seeing this guy felt like (yes I can, I saw it in Tiananmen Square in 1989, except he was holding a briefcase and standing in front of a tank. That was in a despotic, communist regime, this is in the world's oldest and most powerful democracy).

going to spend the next three long years lining his pockets with American tax dollars while his super fans tell us how strong he is and the large raft of sealions lecturing , 'game over. no more elections. It's all over. Give up now.'

The trump abscess will burst easily enough when the time arrives, but it will leave a serious mess behind. Americans will be spending the next three generations apologizing to the world for what he does over the next three years.

35. Cost-of-living worries haunt Americans ahead of midterms, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds
Mon Oct 27, 2025, 12:09 PM

WASHINGTON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Americans are worried about the cost of basic needs including healthcare, food, housing and energy, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found, suggesting those concerns could be critical in next year’s midterm elections that will determine control of the U.S. Congress.

Affordability worries helped power Republican President Donald Trump's 2024 election. But 10 months into his second term, voters have continued to face high prices for everyday staples – and are looking for relief.

Some 40% of respondents in the six-day poll, which closed on Monday, said candidates' positions on the cost-of-living would be the single biggest factor in their vote next year, compared to 28% who said the top issue would be protecting democracy and democratic norms. Another 14% said immigration was the biggest issue and 9% said crime.

“Cost-of-living seems to be on the minds of the public, regardless of partisan stripe,” said John Geer, a public opinion expert at Vanderbilt University who reviewed the poll.

The MAGA should experience the “Full Trump!” they voted for; to see what it’s like to live in the dystopian nightmare they so desperately want.

Reality is a cruel teacher!!!!

My personal hope was D’s would vote for the CR as written. Let its full horror be unleashed. And then stand back…. And watch the blowback.
