To give away to people on the street. Energy bars and water bottles to keep them going.

My pantry is overflowing, but I'm not sure with what. I do know I have tons of canned tomatoes of all sorts. I've also got several boxes of white corn taco shells. Hubby bought them not realizing how incredibly breakable they are with the slightest touch.

But, I love the idea of keeping some food in the car to give out where needed. I bought a case of small Ozark water, and bunches of sacks of potato chips and other snacks. They were having 2 for $1 when I bought these for the No Kings rally. I remembered I really needed them during the first rally, so I made sure I had enough for all of us who went together to the rally, with enough to hand out where I saw the need.

Here in AZ, where winters are kinder than in other places, we have a lot of homeless people. The group that supports policies that benefit rural populations do a LOT of outreach. I am proud to know some of these people, and know supporting their efforts to afford the homeless some dignity is important.

Most communities have groups that really do good work. We may not know the names of such local groups, but a few calls to agencies that help, and even local church groups will likely help folks find these local groups.

A good place to start is to find your local UU church and ask if they have recommendations.

Shelf stable food items & hygiene products are easy to keep in the car to offer people in need. Remember there are homeless women too, and items specific to their personal needs are probably appreciated. Might consider dog food too, as for many homeless people, their dog is their family. Caring for them and their fur family shows you see them. That has to matter on many levels.

generally for any poor critter I find along the side of the road. But I'm clued in to those who need it for their own pets. Separating people from their pets tears me up -- both for the people and for the pet. I've also been in a situation during the first of trump's furloughs where I needed help in the cat food area, so anything I can do now is simply paying back the kindness that was shown to me.

I'm trying to downsize the house. We moved from 3800 sq ft to 1800 sq ft. I have way too much "stuff" in this house. We have an organization in town that runs a free/low cost vet clinic, does rescues and fosters, and is generally all about pet welfare. One of the things they operate is a 2nd Hand Store that gives their profit over to the care and feeding (and rescuing) of animals. All this miscellaneous furniture I'd donating to them 100%, instead of being on consignment. Clothes, etc., I donate to groups (especially women's groups) who work to fill the needs of newly working women who need clothes suitable for that environment. Having lost enough weight that I went from a size 26 to a size 2, I've given away a lot of clothes... most of which are office environment clothing. Mom, when she died, left a huge box filled with stuff animals she collected... mostly gifts from me and my sister. These we donated to shelters for the kids... but also to animal shelters, so the lonely or scared dogs and cats could have something of their own to cuddle up to, as well.

If I'm lucky, by the time I'm done, we may actually have room to turn around and not bump into something for a change! Meanwhile, we've hopefully made someone's life better in some little way.

It is in an area of southern AZ where there are LOTS of elderly retirees. When someone passes, it is so good for survivors to have a 'White Elephant' shop that can take a lot of furniture, books and such while helping a great animal shelter. Many local retirees volunteer at the shop, some fixing items up, some running the store, all supporting a great animal shelter. I got my sweet Maisy from that shelter and can say it is the best run shelter I have ever seen.

Many thanks for remembering the kindness shown you and passing it along by keeping pet food with you to share with others in need. What a world we could have if everyone adopted the practice of thoughtful kindness and giving when we can.

May you glory in every sunrise and know gratitude for being able to see each sunset.

I have lived in anxiety every month until my two checks come in - one from SS and one from a small annuity that fills in the gaps and lets me pay a couple of the larger bills we have. Sure enough, this month no notification of the annuity coming in on the 1st. And yes, I'm bouncing off the walls trying to make contingency plans, and coming up with nothing. People living with this kind of fear from one month to the next is evil. I could only wish HE could be made to live like this for even just a few months. Wouldn't change his mind, but it might give him a bit of discomfort for a small amount of time. That's the least I could wish on him.
