The Gerrymandering problem for the GOP?

Yesterday's court ruling saying that Texas' redistricting proposal that Trump cheered on was unconstitutional really puts the GOP in quite a bind. If the ruling holds (and, of course, there's no guarantee it will with the courts the way they are now) coupled with California's Prop. 50 that passed would mean a net loss of 10 seats right there for the GOP, assuming that Prop. 50 holds up against the GOP's lawsuit against it.

But many of the pundit opinions are saying that California's will because a) it was voted by the people, not forced through by the legislature and b) it was not racially oriented as Texas' was. If the other Trump-backed redistricting proposals in other states fall in similar fashion, the result would be a real earthquake for the GOP. I don't expect a landslide of open seats for the Democrats, but the prospects are enough to give me a lot of hope for the midterms.

Not to mention the states already gerrymandered to favor Republicans.

I'd be perfectly happy with a pledge not go back to an independent commission map until other states drop their politically-driven maps in favor of ones draw by independent commission.
