(14,067 posts)Remember when Joe was a traitor for burning our Afghani CIA assets, because he did not bring them all here?
And NOW
Joe is a traitor for letting the Afghani assets into the country
even though TRUMP ADMIN vetted him.
Pretzel logic is their superpower.

(1,241 posts)in the 2026 mid-term election.........or the 2028 election........
Even a month before the 2024 election, Trump was talking like the 2024 election was already in the bag, so to speak.
I remember thinking......what do they know that we don't? Then Trump specifically thanked Elon for his computer knowledge/assistance with the election......and of course, you can't leave out Putin's interference.....Then the mathematicians, actuarial people and statisticians said it was mathematically impossible for ALL swing states to result in a win for Trump.......
My mind immediately went to Goebells? during the Hitler reign, who said:
"It matters not about the actual votes, as much as WHO IS COUNTING THE VOTES......"
And of course, Putin would help the Republicans engineer a voting system that resembles how he does it in Russia, which always creates a landslide vote for him, regardless of actual votes......

(10,945 posts)I doubt that Americans - who are across the board FEELING the Trump economy and the impact of his imbecilic policies and appointments and actions daily in real life and real time - are going to be as credulous any further for him. There is a limit to how much you can get away with before you have to resort to full on violence to enforce things like voter fraud and manipulation further.
If things are close enough to maintain the illusion, then the public can and will be lulled to sleep... but when the shit is running down the walls and the fans are no longer being hit but are instead wafting the smell in all directions... THEN its a much heavier lift. Competent, serious people are not part of their movement - they are literally overrun by greedy and foolish people who either believe that their money means we should all do whatever they say (Zuckerberg / Bezos) or that their warped views are self-evidently true and should not be questioned (Thiel / Musk) or just plain old narcissistic jackasses (Trump et. al.). Regardless, there is a lot of assuming and grabbing of power but precious little in terms of actions that would do anything but break things further - no policies, no programs, no systems of giving ANYTHING to the population - instead it is all bombast, all the time.
There is a frustration building in the country that is not going to break into 2 neatly divided camps - there will be regional factions that break that way, but nationally it won't. The question is whether or not the federal government remains potent enough (and has enough real leaders and men and women of vision for a shared future) to prevent sectional violence from spreading to national fracture.

(7,006 posts)The quote, or a similar sentiment was attributed to Joseph Stalin:
"I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is thiswho will count the votes, and how".

But I believe your original point is 100% valid. They may have figured out how to PERMANENTLY rig elections in their favour.

(4,124 posts)probably two or three times, just to make sure!
Yeah, Lincoln pardoned a good number of Union soldiers who were condemned to die---
but mostly guys who fell asleep on guard duty, or ran away from a fight---
those he referred to as 'leg cases'--
"if Almighty God gives a man a cowardly pair of legs how can he help their running away with him?"
War crimes would be another matter entirely.

(23 posts)...It was TREASON as defined in the Constitution by taking up arms against the federal government
It was both sedition and treason.
Article III, Section 3 of the United States Constitution: "...levying War against [the United States], or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy: If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

(4,124 posts)who stayed home... and stayed out of the Confederate armies....
(along with the voters who supported them but likewise did not fight)
(just my off the cuff interpretation here,
but there are very likely many great arguments
that they WERE guilty of treason,
even if they didn't personally pick up a rifle---
they certainly DID give 'aid and comfort to the enemy')

There is a gulf of credulity and hypocrisy on the right that absolutely floors me.
I just can't believe that these people are serious...
