"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! Mario Savio, 12-2-1964
I think this quote from the Berkeley Free Speech Movement is appropriate today. It fits my mood right now. The only question is how far are Democrats willing to go? I am convinced that we need nonviolent protests in the Gandhi/King manner. Even some of the Berrigan brothers' acts of conscience.

(12,161 posts)Americans should lock hands, surround this vile machine and refuse to budge until the motor seizes up and is declared useless.
It is high time to put a stop to the madness.

(78,649 posts)I'm in a similar mood to the days when I found out my relatives were murdered, including one by a law enforcement drunk now serving a life sentence. This lady could be my daughter, niece, or cousin. What a cowardly fuck that murderer is.

(78,649 posts)I've got to talk to my 2nd cousin tomorrow. We were planning to do ceremony next week. A tree fell on his lodge, so my son will fix that while we watch the fire heat the rocks. I'll get balance that way.

(23,011 posts)America has a problem. It's the same monster mindset Steppenwolf wrote about in 1969 about Vietnam and everything else. Its presence today should stir every single American -- We the People -- into action to fight them in every way and with every thing at our disposal. And we need to start yesterday, otherwise the NAZIs and their chief backer Putin will win.

(78,649 posts)The murderer is a coward that was so fast on the draw that I think he has looked forward to shooting someone. It has really disturbed me, so I attended my sister's granddaughter's high school basketball game to take an opportunity to relax. (Being a scholar/athlete, she has earned a ride at a great college.)
It is like the Steppenwolf LP on steroids. That classic still holds up so well. Ah, for the days when so many great musicians gave comfort and inspiration to American youth! It remains the music I listen to!

(18,709 posts)The time for real resistance is now. That means the expectation for our elected representatives is to use every tool at their disposal to gum up the works of Congress to grind the govt to a halt. No strongly worded letters, no snarky social media posts, real resistance to this fascist regime with the tools that they have. It also means we as citizens should be prepared to take to the streets in vocal opposition to these acts.

(78,649 posts)I got a message at 9 pm that there is a "pop up" rally tomorrow. I've contacted some friends who are in touch with others in our group, as we've attended every rally this year. I will speculate that I will talk about Dr. King's planned Poor Peoples Campaign.
