The shooting at Kent State was at first "justified" by the authorities in place at that time. However, eye witnesses of the shooting made it clear that it was not only unjustified, but it was also cold blooded "punishment" for those killed. That one incident turned much of America into supporting the anti-war factions.
I suspect the shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday will harden the anti-ICE stance many of us have and allow many to join our ranks!
We need to take up the name of MS Good as often and as loudly as possible. We honor her by telling the truth about the actions surrounding her death. We cannot allow this to fade away as many news stories do.
At a time much earlier in my life the question "At long last have you no shame?" was asked. We need to ask the Cos playing director of DHS the often.

because, frankly, the outcome of Kent State was a turn of public opinion away from student protesters and toward law & order policies. Although people from this vantage point want to romanticize the Sixties, Kent State was really the death knell of the anti-war movement and of student activism as a whole. When the grand jury returned its verdict, it let the National Guard off scot-free, while indicting a number of the protest leaders, including some of the wounded. And, of course, two years later, Nixon won 49 of 50 states.

Paraphrasing, their take away was "street protest is over"

Until that point, I was kind of a mainstream liberal student, a Mr. Nice Guy, Casale continued. I thought that America was basically great except for some bad apples, but it could be fixed. I probably believed the whitewashed history of America being the land of the free, with equal rights and opportunity for everyone. That was eroding as I learned more. But May 4 was the dividing line.

They used stickers for a while and then became the band we all know. But my point here is that, for them, Kent State was the end of campus protest. They moved to more subversive tactics, music and video.
