Here's my theory about Trump's focus on Greenland

As an acolyte and lap dog of Putin, Trump has designated Greenland as a soft target. It has a sparse population and it’s isolated in the North Atlantic Ocean relatively close to the U.S. Politically, militarily and economically, Greenland, by itself, cannot repel a determined attack by Trump.

Greenland and Denmark are members of NATO whose charter, among other important declarations, states that any attack on a NATO member nation is an attack on all NATO nations. It has been a bedrock of maintaining peace in Europe since World War II.

If Trump were to attack Greenland, whether by force or otherwise, it would constitute an attack on all NATO members. Whether or not the European allies would respond militarily is not the point.

The point is that any such action by the U.S. against Greenland would effectively dissolve NATO which has been Putin’s desire all along. Consider that Putin is terrified of Ukraine becoming a member of NATO.

As the expression so accurately states, Everything Trump Touches Dies.

"Everyone" is happy, as far as they're concerned, and no reason for anyone to mess with the other for a hundred years.
As people have know for years, you can get a lot if you just walk in like you own the place, do what you want, and walk out like it's just another Tuesday with your head held high. Most people won't do a thing.

https://www.politico.eu/article/donald-trump-interview-us-greenland-grab-nato-preservation-choice/

Trump, when asked why he wanted the U.S. to control Greenland, said: “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do with, you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document.”

The U.S. president also told the Times he did not feel answerable to international law and was constrained only by his own conscience. “My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me,” he said.

“I don’t need international law,” he added.

Hence the ballroom, hence placing hus name all overz and hence is desperate need to expand America. He wants something that will make him more than a footnote in the history books. The problem is, he is a stupid, lazy person who doesn't have greatness in him. Although, maybe he can destroy 80 years of diplomacy to get a mostly frozen over island for a few years...

Understanding his obsession with Greenland and with Canada becoming a US state is about his Narcissism.

He wants to be known as a president that expanded the American “Empire” to include the entire continent. It’s all about stroking his ego and desire for glory and empire.

It is all for Putin, including Venezuela oil, China may have to go back to buying from Russia or Trump has already said he would sell to Russia. US doesn't want or need the oil, it is more trouble than it is worth, where is the oil from the tankers? If Trump thought they needed more security in Greenland he could, at any time expand the US bases there and if they wanted the minerals, they can invest in mines as so many other countries have done. Don't need to own the land. However if he wants it to allow Russia access to NW passage it makes sense. I also think he is tanking the US economy for Putin, he wanted everyone, Europe and US destabilized and it is working. Everything Trump is doing works for Putin.

It would help the economy, if nothing else, because roadside velour painting businesses would make a bundle on new items with TSF posing in bronze full body armor with lasers shining and a few grotesque members of the Norse pantheon swooping down from above.

Of couse, TSF would insist on a cut of the deal.

If he invades Greenland, which is highly unlikely due to the pushback he's already received (this is why he's switched to saying he'll "buy" it), yes, it will dissolve NATO.

It is a mistake to think trump ever does anything for strategic reasons. He flies by the seat of his pants and in this situation is mostly motivated to distract from Epstein. Furthermore, he isn't intelligent enough to put any strategic plan together.

However, the European nations will form a new protective alliance without the U.S. and it will be called something other than "NATO." With the way trump behaves, they are better off that way, anyway. In the last few days, a study was released saying that younger residents of the UK, France, etc., want a unified European approach. They will get something like that if NATO goes by the wayside.

.... Is its strategic value as global warming opens up a navigable northwest passage.

I think TSF is listening to or is being manipulated by someone who has a long term strategic vision, because he could not come to such a conclusion himself.

It isn't in Putin's interest for an emerging northwest passage to be dominated by US or western countries.

The government has been working on a strategy to protect the Arctic for US interests - commerce, defense, and offense. It has been in the works for decades but trump figures he just need more real estate.

https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/Press-Releases/display-pressreleases/Article/2463000/department-of-the-navy-releases-strategic-blueprint-for-a-blue-arctic/

Page 2 at this link shows how minimal the US access to the Arctic shipping lanes is in relation to other countries. It could have been a cooperative arrangement with Greenland/Denmark but trust is broken now.
