No drama just an old man dyslexic bad punctuation ramble. Yesterday hanging out just observing my son twenty one and his friends they all became best friends in middle school.
And these guys are still tight yet inside like a lot of us i have this feeling of dread for what they may face because of this administration.
Im afraid terrified that these boys or your children or grandchildren will be caught up in war.
Sitting here drinking coffee reading the news its one foot in front of the other until the midterms. Maybe hoping will catch a break before November.

(112,839 posts)is something I don't know if I can bear to be alive to see. That may sound hyperbolic to some, but that is my biggest fear right now. I'm not sure I see any "Marvel Comics Hero" coming to save us--much less our run-of-the-mill political leaders.
Hope springs eternal, but it is damned hard to maintain.

(3,641 posts)I've been thinking a lot about this lately, and about the sacrifices my grandfather's generation made to give us the life that we inherited. They've always been called the "Greatest Generation". They fought fascism. They rebuilt after WWII. They built the middle class. They birthed the civil rights movement.
Then there is the generation that came after. They fought against the Vietnam war. They birthed the Great Society. They took the torch of the civil rights movement and extended it to women. We were almost "there".
And then they fell for Reagan. And Bush. And the Dems went center-right. And the regression began. And then 9/11. And then, for a moment, we had hope again. And then the monsters came, building on the groundwork laid by Dick Cheney, George W Bush, and the criminals on the Rehnquist Court.
And now, I feel like we're back to what our grandparents faced, before they become the "Greatest Generation". Back when victory against fascism was anything but assured. Back when Father Coughlin was urging Americans to support the Nazis and when the klan hadn't been broken yet. Back when fascism in America was still a very real thing.
And I see two paths here -- and I think those paths are really same ones our grandparents faced during the 20's and 30's and 40's. Either roll over and let it happen, or fight back and stop it.
I sincerely think this is the moment where another "Greatest Generation" is ready to step out onto the stage of history. I don't know if it's Gen X, Gen Z, Millenials ... or hell, maybe all of us.
But I'm damn sure that we're about to come to a time where we're going to find out.
For better or for worse.
I choose hope.
And I choose to fight.

(123 posts)We all need to step up in our own ways. The ICE protests need to be country-wide in scope. The brownshirts need to be confronted with vigorous disapproval and public shaming. We have to assert ourselves millions-fold and turn out to vote en masse this November. No more 60% turnouts are acceptable.

And I don't mention the newspapers. Just the airwaves and innernet tubes. Newspapers - the ones that are left, are bought and paid for.

(21,599 posts)This isn't a new problem in America. Just the latest iteration of an old problem. We'd hoped that between the Roosevelts the beast had been slayed. Then came Reagan.

(5,545 posts)I often think of how stoic my parents and grandparents were, and how they must have suffered during both wars and the intervening economic collapse. The daily grind of anxiety and horror would have shattered me, I think. I want to live up to their example.
Right now, we must love as hard as we can and fight the battle in front of us.
And for you today - no dread! Please enjoy the game, the treats and the happy soul of your golden chonk.

(31,139 posts)We're in an abusive relationship with the government and just trying to keep our bodies and souls and minds above water. My son and I talk about this all the time, and others as well.
his presence has made many people sick. magats are sociopaths, the rest of us are anxious, depressed, grief-stricken, and feeling hopeless and helpless and even sometimes despair. There's no rest from this. the republicans ruling are fucking zombies i swear they never sleep.
But we go on. We do what we can to advocate and promote and encourage democracy and the rule of law. And we have our moments. Yesterday, I went to a protest in Durham NC, expecting probably maybe 500 people? I mean there's a group who protest down there every Saturday and I've gone to that when there were maybe 10 people there.
There were AT LEAST 1,000 people! I think likely even more. We marched, and the march stretched for several blocks. Suddenly I was happy, hopeful and secure, knowing that I was doing the right thing, meeting the moment in the right way, and possibly even making a difference leading to change.
So it's a rollercoaster, it's miserable, and we did not choose it, but we can choose how we respond. I send love to you and all of DU and right thinking people everywhere.
Protest, rally, and march in Durham NC. Today.

(12,165 posts)These are tough times but I sense you are even tougher. Youll get through this and your family will as well because of the values you have taught them and the fortitude youve shown.
Some days, when we feel like giving up, we just need to find one teeny ray of hope
.one teeny thing to help get us through until the next morning.
Were all in this together and we have your back.
Hugs~

(18,721 posts)..with her new hubby and my 2 grand daughters. Now the girls are entering college and I worry about what kind of world they are gonna be left. My new son in law is Scottish so if it gets really bad in America my dtr can flee to Scotland but the girls will have to go as students and pay their tuition in full.
I would feel a lot better if they were in a blue state preferably the one Im in.
Hubby and I saved all our money for retirement but we may have to shell out full tuition for the girls if thats the only way to get them out of this hell hol

(21,599 posts)I guess every generation does. Same with me. I use to tell dad, you and mom survived the Great Depression as kids, fought a world war against real enemies, not just political caricatures, lived through the entire Cold War, and you're worried about us? He would say...You'll face the same things just different, so yeah, I worry. I use that same response myself....Mil's, Z's and beyond...they'll face the same things, just different. Same shit, different day.
