Really cool thing at today's protest...

A group our fellow Somalian residents brought large containers of hot samosas and hot chai to share with protesters!

It brought us to tears. It was an action that said so much! They all live every day under the constant stress of ICE, whether or not they are citizens.

The chai was awesome and I heard people saying how amazing the samosas were!

I LOVE my Somali neighbors, they're amazing people. I was so glad to see SO many of my neighbors who are new arrivals out at the protests yesterday. It was EVERYONE out there, from new arrivals to native americans....EVERYONE.

It was my first time going to the site where it happened, and I was really glad people were being super respectful there. I couldn't even keep chanting because I was too choked up. I'm so glad to see so many people rising up, and I know that in Minneapolis, with our large activist community and our longstanding tradition of protesting, we're not going to stand down.

From the labor movement to all of the various movements to protect our natural lands, to the uprising against police brutality, Minnesotans are a hardy stock. We may be nice, but push us and we push back, HARD.

I was just at the grocery store in South Minneapolis, just walking out, and a full size SUV with out of state plates and blacked out windows drove by, and the guy walking out ahead of me was like "Oh hell no!" and jumped in his car to follow it, honking the whole time.
This is what we do here, this is how we defend our neighbors. I wear a whistle all the time, I keep my phone charged, I'm ready to document, I'm ready to defend. There's only so much we can do vs truckloads of heavily armed thugs, but we can pay witness, we can make sure we get names of the people they're taking in so we can spread the word and make sure the families and legal aid are notified. We can make it as difficult as possible (within reason so we don't have more shootings) for them to do their jobs.
It breaks my heart every time I see video of someone being dragged off, and IT HAS TO STOP. Right now we have to win it in the courts, so EVERYTHING needs to be documented, every instance, every one of their vehicles, every one of their masked faces, all of it. The time will come for justice, and when it comes, we need every bit of it we can so these fascists can be held accountable.
If the courts fail us, I don't know what will happen, but it will be ugly, and there will be bloodshed.

Yes, it is being a good citizen to be a defender. Thank you!

I carry my lime green whistle with me too. I also learned about turning the phone in its side to record better vs vertical.

Sambusas – Flaky, fried pastry wrapped around beautifully spiced ground beef or lamb makes these handheld treats a true delight.
