Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsForgive me (for I am human) but I take a small bit of satisfaction that Johnathon Ross was moved from his home.
Right now, I feel helpless. I feel afraid and I feel trepidation about what's to come. So, please forgive me this. Ordinarily, I probably wouldn't take satisfaction out of some of this. But I'm human and I'm reacting to what I see from this situation.
I DO take a tiny bit of satisfaction out of the fact that Ross was moved out of his home. And I'm well aware that he's probably somewhere better. But having to move, and having to move abruptly like that, did not come without its consequences. He's probably not as impacted as the rest of his family. His wife (if she has a job, which reports say she did) probably hasn't been able to go to work. His children probably haven't been able to go to school, and are probably missing their friends, their routine, etc. This is a moment in time that will be etched in their minds for the rest of their lives.
I can feel empathy for the children. But all I hear from THEIR side (i.e., those who approve of ICE's tactics), when they separate families and leave children crying in driveways and hallways as their parents are dragged away, is that the PARENTS should have thought about what they were doing before subjecting their children to that scenario. And the same is true for Ross in my opinion. He should have thought before he agreed to take the job he performed - and certainly before he murdered Renee Good - and subjected his family to HIS actions.
No worries. I'm not becoming "like them". I'm just pointing out that sometimes karma has a way.

(17,072 posts)I don't typically like to wish bad things on others because I think that's asking for trouble. But in these cases, I do think we need to point out that THEIR actions have consequences, too.

(89,087 posts)Because it sure seems like they don't bother to think about what impact their actions might have. So, seems to me WE should.

(114,403 posts)He's likely loafing in a hotel room with ESPN 24 hours a day.
His family are facing the consequences, the side eyes from friends and neighbors, the hostility from strangers. Their lives have been totally upended along with the lives of Good's family.
Right now, he's inconvenienced, nothing worse. I'll believe he's facing some consequences when MPD books him into jail.
crimycarny
(2,013 posts)Because of his ego. How dare he be inconvenienced! How dare he be forced to flee? "They" are now exerting control over his circumstances, and that must be making him absolutely nuts with rage.
I picture a caged rat walking around that hotel room with every increasing anger and rage. At least there is a tiny bit of satisfaction in that.
BComplex
(9,756 posts)Her family, including a six year old boy, isn't inconvenienced.
Whatever this man's going through with his family is also traumatic for them. And his kids won't ever forget this time. But they are being fed lies about who is to blame for their inconvenience and trauma. They are becoming republikkker fakeVictims, like the rest of their ilk.
I agree, Warpy. His experience right now is nothing like what he caused Good's family, as well as the rest of the free and caring world, to experience.

(10,988 posts)I'm terrible sorry that they are related to a murdering piece of shit, but disavowing such a person - even if they were my own parents - would NOT be a difficult decision for me. Painful? certainly... but difficult? Not at all.
ICE is a stain on the nation. It is right up there with Trump. Neither will EVER wash off of the nation and should not... but BOTH must end and if more shootings and murders happen, a time will come when it will become necessary to meet threats with violent defense and a time where ICE agents are fired upon and killed for attempting to murder more civilians. There will be a time when protesting and marching and screams will not suffice. We are closer to that point because of murderers like Ross and enablers/defenders like Trump, Vance, Rubio, Noem and the entire ICE membership.
Their shame does not have a statute of limitation or expiry. Being in the Gestapo was seen a lot differently in 1935 than it was in 1945, and being EVER associated with ICE will look exponentially different in 2027 or 2029 than it does today. We need to have someone in authority recognize that pulling back, turning down the temperature from source of the heat is the ONLY thing that can stop a roiling simmer from reaching a boiling over point. You cannot stop the reaction without first eliminating the source of heat.

I also believe (I'm a Texan) that THIS will limit the amount of support he gets from Christian White Nationalists. It's okay with them to mess around with someone who is a different color (wink! wink!!), but to marry and have children of mixed blood is NOT something they will condone.

Trump does guide a cult. Thats true, but Vances abrupt shift from being a Trump skeptic to what he is today shows he doesnt care about anything else. His wife would be smart to leave, but either shes scared or delusional in the same way Vivek Scammy and crazy eyes Kash are. They think their syncophantic loyalty and wealth will give them cover for their skin color. Vances wife is quiet, but her clerking for scum bags like Kavanaugh shed some clues.

(15,097 posts)The controlling type of guy who can't handle a strong woman or the idea of having a mere female as a partner often talks about having an immigrant wife because she won't talk back.
Likewise, baby princes who don't think they need to deal with the minor BS in life like paying bills, cleaning house, cooking meals, ect., want a Mommy with benefits to pick up after them and schedule their lives while they play grown-up. And they'll look for a woman who isn't a "feminist" or might have desires of her own outside of taking care of a home in exchange for being taken care of.
Both these types of men are also attracted to organizations where they are able to swagger around playing warrior and busting heads without much repercussion or possible hazard to their personal safety.
Immigrant wives are perfect to these types. They keep your house comfy, any kids out of your way, and don't talk back - even if they're "She who must be obeyed" types, their demands generally won't require any change, personal growth or much consideration other than an ability to budget or work extra shifts

respond to him with violence, or send death threats. It's just as important here, as when we demostrate, that we make our case peacefully.
The consequences he is experiencing are the only deterrent ICE agents will face. It needs to be horrible, or we are in trouble. In fact, it's not even good for him if he doesn't learn anything from this and keeps acting out that way.
We have to get what satisfaction we can from him experiencing a little of what they put others through.
