Norâeaster threatens 12 states, 80M people with blizzard conditions
— #TuckFrump (@realtuckfrumper.bsky.social) 2026-02-21T21:21:50.000Z
Communities situated near the Atlantic Ocean's shoreline are most vulnerable to severe winter weather. Some of the nation's largest cities, including Philadelphia, New York and Boston, are located well within areas that could experience major winter storm conditions.
Those conditions include a blizzard caused by a powerful offshore low-pressure system that is producing high winds and heavy snowfall near its outer edges while centered off the Eastern Seaboard.
Blizzard warnings are in effect into Monday along coastal areas, from New Jersey and Delaware to the southern New England states.

We just cleared snow from a small storm this morning. My area is looking at 18 to 24 inches again! We did this in January as well. *sigh*

(73,379 posts)However, it still has to be shoveled and not an easy task in your 70's. Then a quick melt of 2 feet on top of 2 feet will cause a lot of flooding.
PS, I lived through the Blizzard of 76.

(59,953 posts)My wife-to-be was in the USA for a year-long compatibility test (we passed). When the storm struck, I was in Switzerland and my CEO was in California. We were also best friends and roomies (that hasnt changed, by the way) in a modest house about a half-mile walk from the green line station. Our respective girlfriends were holding down the fort.
After nearly a week, we were both able to finally fly back to Boston and get transpo to the house. Due to the snow and ice, the front door was impassable for weeks after the storm, and we could only enter and leave via the back door. For the first week, we were told that the only way to get into Boston was by going down the Massachusetts Turnpike by the only possible means of transportation still available: on skis.

(96,895 posts)I was driving back to my apartment when it started to snow. I was young and didn't pay much attention to the weather reports.
No work and only emergency vehicles were allowed on the road for a week. Not much food in the house, but I made it through.

(4,671 posts)Already put out a notice that all offices will be closed tomorrow. These storms are costing me a fortune on plowing and shoveling fees.
No, I no longer think that snow is pretty.

(318,027 posts)your way, she!
I remember 24 in of Snow overnight when I went to visit my Mom in Denver at Christmas time one year. I got in Ahead of time but my brother and sister couldn't get across town on Christmas day.
And, I lived in upper state New York for 12 years so I had lots of snow shoveling days and many degrees below ZERO!
Wishing you all the Warmth and Cozying you can have in the Blizzard days ahead.

(96,895 posts)We are not having any more below zero temps
now that it is snowing.
After the last storm my sister had to have the roof raked, she had two leaks in the ceiling one in the upstairs bathroom and one in the mudroom.
We take turns going out to shovel, we keep up with it because neither of us can shovel 2 feet at once. It is harder to do as it is another overnight storm.
Thanks, Cha.

(65,879 posts)There should be at least a foot here and maybe up to 20 inches+ if the banding really sets up. Where the banding sets up is a significant factor in storms like this.
Been the worst winter here in over 10 years already with all the cold.

(10,808 posts)So glad I moved south to NC. Sounds like the second coming of the Blizzard of 78, which was doozy.
