men's hockey team are feeling the heat. "Everyone is giving us backlash for all the social media stuff today"

Speaking in Miami Monday, Hughes - who became a global superstar for scoring the winning goal victory while bleeding from the loss of two front teeth - told the Daily Mail: 'They've got busy schedules, too. Everyone is giving us backlash for all the social media stuff today.

'People are so negative out there and they are just trying to find a reason to put people down and make something out of almost nothing.
'Our relationship with them, over the course of being in the Athletes' Village, I think we are so tight with their group.

'After we won the gold medal, we were in the cafeteria at 3.30am in the morning with them and we go from there, pack our bags and we're on the bus.

'People are so negative about things. I think everyone in that locker room knows how much we support them, how proud we are of them and we know the same way we feel about them, they feel about us.'

Trump called the men's team on Sunday after their stunning 2-1 overtime win over Canada at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. He joked that he would 'be impeached' if he did not invite the women's team as well, who also took home gold at the Games.

do these man-child hockey players live in a jock bubble?..do they not get that Kash Patel is an odious pedo protector..that his pedo boss is a sadistic amoral revenge-fueled racist misogynist?...that the world hates our guts, and Trump wipes his fat ass with the Constitution?...

the Olympics gold medal winning women's hockey team have more compassion and class than the whole of the men's hockey team...

They live in a jock bubble. Their lives are completely subsumed by preparation for the Olympics. I am going to give them some credit: they had just won the gold over an extremely talented and heavily favored Canadian team for the first men's gold in 46 years. I think they were so deliriously happy that anyone, as long as they were excited for them, would have been welcome in the moment.

So yeah, I'm willing to give them a pass for the moment. How I feel about them will depend on how much I hear "everyone's picking on us" over the next few days or unless they make statements supporting Trump when they've come down from the victory high. I don't give a pass to Patel. He had no business worming his way into the locker room, and he sure as hell had no business having the taxpayers fund his private flight over there.

I am not giving the Men's Hockey Team a pass bc they were excited. I am not saying they should have spit on Patel or been rude to Trump, but they showed who they were when they laughed with Trump's over his comments about the women's team. They showed who they were when they partied with Patel in the locker room. Then, when called on it, do they apologize? Not to my knowledge. Instead, they do what MAGAs do, become the victims. I shouldn't say all of them, but certainly those on display and those attending tonight.

I hope none of these guys get any endorsements. They deserve to be blacklisted.

have also had their lives completely subsumed with preparations for the Olympic Games, which they also won in their sport.
It’s not difficult to be attentive to current affairs and to show support and compassion for fellow Team USA members who are being debased by the cretinous squatting in the White House.

Probably no more than 15 Hispanic players in the NHL.maybe 2%

Less than 4% of the nhl is black.

The NHL probably has more opportunities for maga misogynist and racist players than any sport.

one of the words tossed around in interviews, to be going to meet Trump at the White House.

Maybe some things transcend politics, guy. Oddly, Hughes has (IIRC) been a decent advocate for Pride/LGBTQ in the past. Seems an odd turn for him.

I don't know, maybe there's other social media stuff I missed and this isn't a Trump thing. I don't really do social media, so I really wouldn't know.

But that was then and this is now. Those players needed to (or need to) say something diplomatic and distance themselves from Patel/Trump ("Our win was for all Americans, blah, blah, blah. No SOTU. Go the WH down the road with all the US Olympians which would be customary.

F'n Patel and Trump trying to get in on it. Always about them. "A big, strong hockey pleyer came up to me with tears in his eyes and said, 'This one is for you POTUS."

None for the coaches; none for trainers: none for support staff; nonevfor team management; non for trainers...
But, one of them let Patel wear his medal. Didn't lend it to the head coach to wear, but to a glory hound who used taxpayer money to take a luxury trip.
And, "people are so negative" surprises him?
Don't do stupid things and he won't get the negativity.

Dave Fischer:

I must say the locker room performance of the men’s hockey team went a long way toward nullifying their achievement. By allowing a pedo-protecting stooge to share their victory as though he had earned it, in the most obnoxious frat boy way, and then joining in laughter as Degenerate Donnie debased women, turned the win and white house invite into an insignificant dirty, misogynist joke. The team was incredibly disrespectful to the women's team, and it was appalling that not a single one of them was brave enough to say "that's not funny" and that every woman deserved an apology from them. On the other hand, the women hockey team represented the game with character and discipline. Watching the men undermine their sport is heartbreaking.
