These people in office did not "ascend" to anything. The ship hit an iceberg (or more accurately was intentionally rammed into it by an evil and incompetent captain), they then grabbed all the available life-vests and gave all of their friends and benefactors 10 each, put them into the available life boats at 1/3rd or less capacity; and then finally started throwing the rest of the people overboard with nothing at all.

They are not even definable in the animal kingdom beyond simply calling them predators.
Sexual.
Financial.
Ethical.
