14. If there is no way to avoid it, I suggest someone market some specially sized opaque post-its

to cover it, yet "technically not deface it"... Anyone checking the passport can simply remove it (and one can travel with extras in case they refuse to give it back). Maybe imprint on the post-it something to the effect that passport holder joins the rest of the world in hating the man whose image lies under the post-it.
