I wonder if Comey ever regrets tipping the scales for Trump by reopening Hillary's emails in 2016?

This was a classic example of party over country and look where it took us.

Comey thought Trump would never get elected. Just like the GOP primary field, the Clinton campaign and many of us, no one took Trump seriously until it was too late. I have always thought that Comey thought Hillary would win so he opened a show investigation so it would look like the FBI wasn’t covering it up and having to deal with the constant backlash from the right after the election in helping Hillary win. The right was already up in arms because he didn’t indict her over the emails.

And, yes, it is almost inconceivable that a former Director of the FBI could be so naive, but then again, there is our former AG, Merrick Garland.

I think Garland too just never thought Trump would come back to being President so he let everything just slide to not be seen as doing a political prosecution and moving beyond the Trump years. Unfortunately he too was very naive cause I could see a Trump comeback a couple years before 2024.

Comey is certainly reaping what he sowed. It just sucks that the rest of us, especially those who knew better and didn't vote for this madman, have to suffer for Comey's action in 2016.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t think it made a difference at all, let alone the difference. Piss won for a few reasons. He used populist language and was an outsider and because Hillary wasn’t that popular, was worn down from two and a half decades of attacks and was the ultimate insider.

But the biggest reason he won was because he inspired people to vote. I can’t tell you how many people I know that never cared about politics at all and never voted in their lives who went to vote for him. That happened all across the country and was enough to put him over the top where it mattered.

The people who were mad about Comey not charging Secretary Clinton for the server bullshit were the same people happy about the re-opening of the investigation. They were also the same people who couldn’t care less about the Access Hollywood tapes. The people who voted for her were always going to vote for her and the people who voted for him were always going to vote for him. Comey’s action didn’t move the needle. All those new voters, particularly in the so-called “Blue Wall” states were the difference. The pollsters didn’t see them and conventional wisdom, for reasons that escape me, said America would never vote a person such as he into the White House.

I think people forget what this country is and always has been.
