All,
Does anyone know of resistance-related events for the upcoming Semiquincentennial?
I also wonder just how most Americans are going to celebrate this day. I'll wager it will be nothing as festive as the Bicentennial back in 1976...

(347 posts)I Read this was in the planning stages for years, going back to the Bush II and the Obama presidencies. However, with the Pedo in chief and his merry band of sycophants in charge, I wouldn't be surprised these plans were altered significantly...for the worse. Ugh!

(11,262 posts)I choose to mark the founding of the republic with the adoption and ratification of the Constitution and the first Washington Presidency and administration.
Presented: - September 28, 1787
250th anniversary of presentation: - September 28, 2037
Ratified: - June 21, 1788 (9 of 13 states)
250th anniversary of adoption: - June 21, 2038
Date effective: - March 4, 1789
250th anniversary: - March 4, 2039
America's 250th birthday as a nation under the Constitution is still quite a few years hence and Trump will almost assuredly be dead long before that date comes to pass - or he will be so enfeebled and demented that no one will see him in his terminal decline, covered in his own shit, pale as the reaper and cold as a corpse to all around him. The anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is tarnished beyond repair by Trump's infection, so too are the 25th commemorations of the 9/11 attacks, but the founding of the republic is blessedly beyond the reach of his tiny hands and enormous ego. He will be dead, gone and rotting long before then and I will be there to piss on his grave in commemoration.

(103,792 posts)My sister and I were at my mom's house for some reason, nobody else was home and neither of us lived there. We had teevee on and "A Long Day's Journey Into night" movie with Jason Robards and Kathrine Hepburn came on so we watch it together. 3hour movie.
Didn't really care about the fireworks or anything. Somehow, that was one of my more memorable July 4th celebrations.

(10,139 posts)Most of us were patriotic. The whole country was red white and blue. Something to celebrate and be proud of after Watergate. Such innocent times.
For me the worst part is I play in a community band and were expected to play a lot of patriotic crap this summer. Ugh. One consolation is our director despises trump at least as much as I do and hes forcing himself to program this garbage because thats what the audience expects. And I detect a distinct lack of enthusiasm about the anniversary around here. Extreme contrast to 1976.

I don't plan on doing anything that helps billionaires and their minions. I'll probably stay home and enjoy my solitude while it's still possible.

(27,183 posts)Early 20's I, and a bunch of our relatives walked all the way down, (and back up) to under the GW Bridge by the Little Red Lighthouse to watch the Tall Ships sail up, past and then turn, and sail back down to Lower Manhattan.
They were so cool to see; each with different details.
Then at night we went down to see the fireworks at the south tip of Manhattan.

Sometimes I go to my sister's to watch the 4th's fireworks on TV. We used to go in person for decades. We're fireworks fans!
For all you pet owners - they can eliminate the big booms etc that scare your furbuds. It's the visuals for me.
We've seen fireworks when South Street Seaport used to have them.
We've traveled all the way down from the top of Manhattan by subway ( a long trip) to Coney Island (south Brooklyn) to see the fireworks on the beach on Fri summer's night after the Minor League high-A team of the Mets: The Brookyn Cyclones plays a game at the stadium down there!
Maybe I'll still do that if she invites me up; and pretend we're celebrating drumphf leaving the pResidecy!
