There is a special kind of outrage in watching Americans pay more for gas, groceries and fertilizer-driven food costs because Donald Trump has helped turn the Strait of Hormuz into a global choke point for everyone except one of Vladimir Putins favorite oligarchs.
You read that right.
The United States has imposed a naval blockade affecting Iranian seaborne trade, while Iran has fired on or seized ships in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the worlds most important energy corridors. Ship traffic through Hormuz has collapsed from its normal flow to just a handful of vessels a day, with only five ships passing through in one 24-hour period last week.

But not everyone is suffering from this war. Nord, the $500 million superyacht linked to sanctioned Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov, successfully transited the blockaded Strait of Hormuz this week after maintenance in Dubai. Neither Iran nor the United States objected. The vessel sailed under a Russian flag, used an approved maritime route, and was allowed safe passage by both the Iranians and the United States. Its final destination is the Seychelles.

(37,608 posts)Neither says that the gulf is closed to 100% of all traffic. Trump speaks, but the orders with his signature on them, explicit or otherwise, say that Iran, which basically means Iran's ports, are blockaded. Then there's the Iranian side, which says any enemy of Iran (which basically means anybody that isn't actively supporting them in a "if you're not actively with us, we want you gone, you enemy of the true faith"--meaning belief in the Revolution and its aims ... Almost sounds like Russian socialist times, don't it?)
Dubai ... Not part of Iran, not a port of Iran.
Russia ... An active friend of Iran, not enemy.
So who, exactly, is blockading Russian ships?
Oh, the US. Because we're not doing what the Internet thinks the DOD's actually been told to do. (In other words, Trump is always a truth teller and never, but never, exaggerates. That idea is facially
