New delay looms for Homeland Security funding as US House GOP blocks vote

WASHINGTON — U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson wants to make changes to a Senate-passed bill that would end the shutdown at the Department of Homeland Security, a move that will further delay funding and prolong the stalemate that began in mid-February.

The holdup could again interrupt paychecks for workers at the Transportation Security Administration and Federal Emergency Management Agency, both of which are part of DHS. Huge backups in airline security lines resulted in March when TSA officers went without pay for weeks until the administration scrambled to reprogram funds.

Johnson, R-La., has chosen not to negotiate potential tweaks in the funding bill with Senate Democrats, who will be needed to advance it if the House makes alterations.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference the bill that’s stalled in the House doesn’t “need tweaks.”

Traveling back to where I just left for the wedding of members my adopted family there in a few weeks. I think I may have to decline. I hate missing the event but not only has the price of air travel gone up exponentially, these other issues make me think it would be a journey from which recovery would be necessary and I'm not up for that.

I hate this fucked up regime so much.

ask Google about cheapest airfares from Detroit MI to Phoenix AZ,
where my best friend lives, and mostly the only airline trip I have ever taken...

I was accustomed to paying about $300 for such, the last time was in 2008,
and I expected the quotes to be much higher than that---

Much to my shock, Google was feeding me links to such round-trips
mostly starting around $150, but some even LESS than that---
from 50% less to 67% less than what I used to pay for the same trip...

I have no logical explanation for that,
except that you should definitely start with Google to price your flights!!!!

(AND, I didn't actually try to BUY any such flight, I was just 'shopping',
but I didn't expect to see ANY such prices in a search result!)

(I asked Google for "cheapest round-trip airfares from here to there"..)
