'The shine's come off': Disillusioned Trump voters put deep-red state in play

By Travis Gettys
Published May 1, 2026 1:35 PM ET

CNN's John King traveled to rural Ohio – deep-red MAGA country – and found many of President Donald Trump's supporters were losing their enthusiasm.

The chief national correspondent spoke to disillusioned Trump voters in Portsmouth, and they told King that Trump's war in Iran and the downstream effects on the country's affordability crisis had soured them on his second presidency.

"I am pro-military, and I am – we have a strong need to protect this country," said Dale King, an Iraq war veteran and gym owner. "I know there are threats and I know there are enemies that want to see the downfall of this country. But you can't can't be flippant about war."

Hey John King I have an idea why don't you ask these assholes if they somehow, someway feel like they are responsible for this shit show and that BS wake up call metaphor..............because after all they are just like that asshole traitor sitting in the Whitehouse that he is trying to tear down and put his name on it..............this idea of having remorse for what they did.............is horseshit, they joined that bandwagon, they knew right from wrong, they knew that their guy was convicted of fraud and sexually assaulting a woman.................they were warned.............. and they were warned that their guy wanted to destroy this republic...................from day one ............and they still supported him.......

1. No matter what they say, if they vote, they will vote Republican.

The best result for us is if they stay home and do not vote. Lack of enthusiasm is what we are looking for, and I believe lack of enthusiasm is what we will see from them.

Yes, Dale King there are and anyone who was paying attention knows that so many of those enemies are now in the White House. Of course, there is also Putin who appears to be calling a lot of the shots.

You know, it has been over ten years since Trump entered politics. How could you guys not see what he was doing? It is not like he was trying very hard to hide his destructive agenda. Clearly, he is the most obvious man on the planet.

...that they realize that blindly voting R is what got us here & that they are committed to voting D, I don't want to hear their disillusionment or their self-pitying contrition.
I fully expect that they will still see liberals &; Democrats as the enemy.
