The Economist: In his three runs for office, Mr Trump has always won the male vote and always won overall when his opponent was a woman. A study by Dan Cassino of Fairleigh Dickinson University found that, after voting for Trump in 2024, men actually reported feeling more masculine.
Yet his macho magic appears to be fading, especially among young men. In 2024 49% of men aged 18-29 voted for him. Now only 28% approve of him, finds a Harvard/IOP poll. Virile vibes are all very well, but young men have practical concerns, too. They often want to find a job, buy a home, attract a partner and raise a family
The trouble is, homes and families cost money. Mr Trump said he would make America affordable again by ending inflation and even making prices fall. Yet his tariffs and war in Iran have had the opposite effect.

(4,137 posts)He used to be able to bloviate with a certain weird charisma. No more. I think the not feeling masculine is about politics or even the economy. Trump just isn't able to fake masculine anymore.

(20,800 posts)Its probably unlikely many will fully convert. The next best and most likely outcome is they become disillusioned with the process and stop voting altogether.
MadameButterfly
(4,137 posts)they keep voting, and they keep voting Republican. It's still a cult.

(20,800 posts)Im not aware of any major GOP election wins since 2024. Its been a steady stream of special election defeats for them since November of that year.
The cult voters are always going to be there. Not sure why in the world youd ever expect them not to be. Of course, the cult had a lot of help getting him over 270 in 2024, and increasingly those voters are not there. And statistically, younger voters, which is what the OP is talking about, are less likely to vote in mid terms no matter what party theyre affiliated with. Thats been a political law of physics for quite a while now.
MadameButterfly
(4,137 posts)the cult members, will follow him to the bottom regardless of what he does.
We are winning elections because of swing voters, who are always who we are vying for. I'm not saying numbers won't get better. Some of young men are swing voters, not completely buried in the cult.

It's a lie created to manipulate men into unthinking obedience to some authority figure.
It's projection, casting their feelings of failure, fear and weakness onto others.
That sure beats taking responsibility, caring for others and learning and growing.
Even if it comes at a cost of self-respect, identity, opportunity and fortune.
Job well done

well now their racist fantasy has come true. people are being deported to places like South Sudan because trump thinks its funny. blacks are about to be eliminated from congress in the south. but the side effect is everything is more expensive and no one is hiring. and now that the leopard is eating THEIR faces, they are upset.

(15,630 posts)49% of men 18-29 went for Trump in 2024, but the majority of men 30 and up voted for him. I wonder what those older Trump voters think of him now.
