The ad I just saw is sponsored by the California Utility Industry, PG&E (California's Utility Co), One branch of the Electrical Workers Union , the Chamber of Commerce and the Realtors Association.
Obviously, they don't like his stand on green energy or the environment in general. But that doesn't give them the right to mislead voters which is what this ad does.
How? Well they quote him during a debate which I watched in full as saying "Me paying more taxes is not the answer" as though he refused to pay more taxes. That is the opposite of what happened. He said he would pay more, but without others in his tax bracket doing the same it would not be a solution.
I'm not a Steyer supporter, but the fact that the energy sector and certain business interests don't like his stance on issues doesn't mean they can smear him with innuendo.

Shame on PG&E for attacking with a quote out of context.
Sounds very RW/Fascist.
Good catch!

(92 posts)Watched the first debate and I am really not that concerned about him. We survived a term of Ahnold, we can survive Steyer. (And I think Steyer is much better than Schwarzenegger) With that I don't expect him to be Governor. If he makes it to the final two, which I think he will, he will need to pull a huge majority of Repub votes plus 15 to 20% of Dems.

(92 posts)If Steyer is the only Dem he wins.
I am still expecting there to be two Dems, Steyer and Becarra.
With that Steyer is going to need to motivate Republicans to vote for him in the General. It two Dems on ticket how big of a turnout can you expect from Repubs. In a competitive District, Repubs will come out, but I expect them to be overwhelmed by pissed of Dems in most Districts.
No earth shattering Props, so what does Steyer do to expand potential voters? If he openly courts R's in this environment he is toast.
Tech Bros. run attack ads for him, again, likely toast, plays into the 'he is a billionaire being funded by billionares.
Just seems to be a very difficult environment for him to win unless he can quickly jump back into the top spot and have Hilton take the second spot.

(5,794 posts)what youre thinking. Youre saying if Steyer makes it to final two, you dont expect him to win.
Who would then? Becerra? Surely not Hilton.

(92 posts)I expect him to make the final two with Beccara. (Beccara taking most votes in primary)
Hilton is the only Repuke I think can make the final two.
So if it is two Dems I think Steyer has the bigger hill to climb. Bad year to be a billionaire running. So to win Steyer will need to take a huge number of Repuke voters. (Remember is a lot of Districts there will ONLY be two Dems in the final, so a Repub in those districts will need to be motivated to vote by a Proposition (no major Hate Props this year) or be motivated to vote by hoping Steyer is a DINO.
As a side note, just saw two back to back Young Kim (R) commercials. OC is in the LA market so not cheap. The first was paid for by Kim and focuses on Donald Trump supporting her. Who the hell runs an ad in a competitive District focusing on Donald J. Trump. The immediate ad following was an attack ad against her claiming she is a liberal. Funny as hell, the opposition ad is likely more effective for her than her own ad.

(5,794 posts)have missed the debate. Have been nail-biting that Hilton wont make it to final two but not sure.
Am just so happy at Becerras surge. He has my vote,

(11,075 posts)The man just decided my vote then and there on the spot.
Nope. Status quo lobbyist servicer.
The easiest and hardest of passes.
I have my qualms about Steyer and how effective he'd be, but when PG&E, tech, the medical lobby, and every corporate hand out in the state is working overtime to drag this guy bodily through the primary. No.
We just cannot afford this shit in 2026. Californians need help, and Becerra is so blatantly consulting with every lobbying firm in Sacramento to get through the next month.
Thing is, it could work. Easily. But man, how embarrassing it is to witness.

(4,003 posts)It looks like the stars are aligning and the great California Republic will elect someone on the right side of the issues.
Not from California, but I like what I'm seeing since Swalwell dropped out.
