Will SCOTUS use a double-standard when states like NJ, NY, MD, VA, etc.

redistrict and white voters will claim their voting power has been diluted based on race and not on partisan considerations?

They didn’t block California’s redistricting, and that state and TX are probably the most significant.

Or was it a state court?

My understanding is Hochul and the legislature have not abandoned redistricting, but there may not be time to get it done this year.

A lower NY state court ordered the district redrawn specifically to accommodate black and Latino voters.

SCOTUS has consistently overruled such orders, saying redrawing districts to give an advantage (translation: representation) to a particular racial group was not allowed.

They allowed California’s gerrymander because it was a partisan, not racial, redraw.

I do believe NY is considering a partisan redraw, but might not have time to get it done for the midterms.
