Current Average Gasoline Prices in California
As of the latest AAA data, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in California is about $6.11 ABC10+1. This is the highest statewide average in nearly four years and the most expensive in the nation, far above the national average of $4.457 ABC10+1.

... in their metropolitan areas.

This causes their gasoline retail price to spike higher than other areas of the country. Only fair to note this reality when doing national price comparisons.

How much did California's average gas prices increase over the time period in the chart?

EDIT: Never mind, I decided to answer my own questions using your source. California's prices increased less than 20 cents (https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=CA), which is why they are not on this chart.

Glad I could clear that up for you!

... my refueling focus at tank refill time is finding the rock bottom price locally, that is in no way moisture laden rot gut adulterated gasoline. Then adding that place to my errand list on my journey about and around town.

I rarely focus on the weekly surge in price in any great detail.

Thank you for pointing that out.

What state are you in?
Every station in Illinois has to have tank sensors detecting any water above the settling sump.
If the level in the sump exceeds 90%, the alarm goes off & the station has to shutdown until the service can come by to pump out the sump.
Since water is insoluble in gasoline, only water at the bottom of the tank matters.
Also, in most of the country, there is no "rot gut" gasoline. It is all refined to API & DOE standards.
Discount gas doesn't have all, or as much of, the additives added at the terminals. But, it's not off-quality product.
It's illegal to sell out if specification gasoline at the refiner or wholesale level.

I try and remain alert that good quality gasoline goes in to that gas tank. The car manufacturer recommends fuel standards higher than the EPA requires for good engine performance and the life of the engine.

During the week I use an old beat up GMC pickup truck not so picky about fuel quality.

Thank you for your response post - ProfessorGAC you always provide helpful information here at DU.

7-Eleven doesn’t sell just one type of gas. They operate two completely different fuel models, and the quality gap between them is massive.

If you’re pumping from a pump labeled “7-Eleven” or “Speedway,” you’re getting fuel that meets the bare minimum EPA requirements—nothing more. Neither brand appears on the TOP TIER™ certified retailers list, which is the automotive industry’s gold standard for fuel quality.

Sure, the base fuel starts at the same refineries and travels through shared pipelines. But the magic happens at the terminal when your gas gets loaded onto the delivery truck.

What’s On The Pump TOP TIER Status What You’re Getting Should You Buy It?
7-Eleven (generic) No EPA minimum only Avoid
Speedway p No EPA minimum only Avoid
Exxon (at 7-Eleven) Yes Synergy high-detergent Yes
Mobil (at 7-Eleven) Yes Synergy high-detergent Yes
Chevron (at 7-Eleven) Yes Techron high-detergent Yes
Sunoco (at 7-Eleven) Yes UltraTech high-detergent Yes
Marathon (at 7-Eleven) Yes High-detergent formula Yes
CITGO (at 7-Eleven) Yes High-detergent formula Yes

Trump told Big Oil he'd deliver their wish list if they spent $1 billion to elect him president. And he's doing it — giving them a blank check while gutting clean energy options that lower costs for Americans. Billionaires get richer, everyone else’s electric bills go up.

The Trump administration agreed to pay French energy firm TotalEnergies nearly $1 billion in taxpayer funds to cancel offshore wind projects off New York and North Carolina, directing the firm to reinvest in U.S. fossil fuel projects. This deal, announced in March 2026, aims to stop renewable development and encourage fossil fuel production.

Yesterday I saw a chuck steak,...

Not notoriously viewed a premium cut,..

This one was 1/3 chunks of fat ingrained in marbleized red meat.

$11.58/lb.

But the canned cat food aisle with various meats and fish was busy. I was tempted to fill up my shopping cart, drag the shit home, and make a nice stove top stew.
