The US only imports about a half-million barrels a day from the middle east (under 2.5%) so maybe there is some sort of refinery issues in New England.
That would explain the difference between your area and the Midwest.
Not the oil supply, but a refined product disruption.

The 2 gas stations near our house that are typically a few cents cheaper than others are both at $4.849.
7 or 8 weeks ago it was $1.96 lower.
So, the predictions of high prices is dead on.

There has been a line at the Walmart gas station for the past 3 days around 2 or 3 pm. I never use it because I had my credit card stolen there several times. I rather pay a few cents more to avoid getting my card stolen.

So, I go down the street to the Ingles that has no line. Walmart has the cheapest gas in a 50 mile area. The lines are getting longer there but the other stations are open.

I get my gas at Costco as well. Current average price per gallon across the board here is $3.90 to $4.00.

into NE based on BJs gas stations. They tend to be 10-20 cents cheaper than other local options; and you can get a discount based on purchases.

So while running out of gas is unusual and a bit frightening, I'd say given how much gas prices are rising, especially after Tuesdays and Wednesdays due to releases of petroleum product inventories, I wouldn't be surprised after last week that people are gassing up early in the week to avoid steeply rising prices.

I won't say this won't be happening this summer if this Iran WAR doesn't get resolved.

Keep in mind prices are cheaper in Texas than other parts of the country. Consumers will notice when they pay $10 more to fill up.

I can deal with the higher cost specialty tires and the CA "make up for not paying CA taxes at the pump" doubling of the tag renewal.
But no way in hell would we be able to afford the gas price for Laz's delivery gig that pays his and the grandkid's dental loan - $14k left to go for braces, 3 root canals, and a full set of permanent dentures.
Even on an engineer's pay and disability, Dental is F'ing expensive because it's a "moral hazard"...
A moral hazard - even if you're a kid whose palate is too narrow, and your adult teeth are coming in jammed and twisted up against each other. Or the medication you were taking for a long term neurological problem eventually infected the roots of all your teeth at the jawline (where brushing and cleaning wouldn't matter), and you had to get them all removed or risk sepsis.

I'm talking about the gas stations that don't operate under a major logo like Shell, Mobil, Texaco, etc. It will be harder for the independent stations to get their deliveries on time and some might have to close.

We saw this happening during the oil/gas shortages of the 1970's. Nobody was happy with the odd/even setup, but at least it cut down on the long lines. If your license plate ends with an odd number you could buy gas on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. If your plate ended in an even number you could buy on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. Before they did that, everyone spent hours waiting in line on any day and it was ridiculous.

Spending across the board is being shed at alarming rates. The entire supply chain of this modern economy is swimming in petroleum from start to finish. Prices are going to soar like Germany after WWI without definitive leadership stepping up and removing Trump and his clowns and sycophants from the room immediately.

We are facing an absolute crisis - unseen in decades - and the imbecile in the big chair should not be trusted to run a charity bake sale.
